Lovely old Charlton, why not just take them on the Woolwich ferry. I know someone who works there so I can sort it for you so you don't have to queue up :p

Why not take them to Southend or a weekend away at Allhallows (Haven), the beaches are stony but do still have some sand.

For Camber Sands you want to go via Ashford anyway (Charlton - London Bridge - Ashord - Camber Sands)

we went to camber in may, so lovely if you get good weather we stayed with park resorts, monday to friday break was only about £100, there is a station at rye then you could get a taxi from there.
