I just bought a HD camcorder... Canon HF 200 Legria..
advice is to buy at least a class 6 sdcard... came with a class 4 card.

class 4 records on Highest quality..... but i bought a class 6 too... but it doesn't record on the highest quality.... I DON'T UNDERSTAND...
Can anybody pls explain this to me in as "laymen...y" terms as possible.

Thanks for any help offered.

Brand of card? where you bought it from?

sounds like the new class6 card is faulty or doesnt match the rating it is marked, i would send it back, and get an alltogether diffrent one so you dont repeat

the class 4 works as many cards are faster than their class rating (from decent manufactures anyway)

Class 4 is a SanDisk Ultra 4GB

Class 6 is an Ultima pro 8GB...

Not any wiser... Maybe someone in the know could recommend a good card... 8GB or 16 Gb... thanks

I think the problem is you have a bad card, or just maybe, you bought it from somewhere that sells fakes

http://www.play.com/HOME/HOME/6-/Search.html?searchstring=sandisk+ultra&searchtype=allproducts&searchsource=0

this site sells only genuine stuff, and those are the ultras' that for you, work

The SanDisk is an Ultra II.... is that a good one?

Bought the Ultima from "MYMEMORY"
Integral 8GB Ultima Pro SD Card (SDHC) - Class 6 x 1

I think you'll find ultraII are better suited to photography, best bet would be class 6 SDHC cards mate.

That sthe one that doesn't seem as good... doesn't record on the highest setting... yet the class 4 Ultra II does..... doesn't make any sense to me... unless of course I got a duff one...

Would just like anybody that has a HF200 legria to tell me the best card to use..... guess that wishful thinking.... will try the transcend....

Thanks all for help... rep on the way

From canons website :

Max Recording Time
¹ Class 4 or higher SDHC card required for 1920x1080 recording, Class 2 or higher SDHC card recommended for other recording modes, Memory card not supplied
² LP recording mode
LP mode
¹ Variable bit rate used in all recording modes
² Class 4 or higher SDHC card required for 1920x1080 recording, Class 2 or higher SDHC card recommended for other recording modes, Memory card not supplied

So yes I reckon your card is duff, send it back. Get the Transcend.
