Apparently they 'chase' you by staying in your shadow (staying out of the heat). They can run as fast as a human so will carry on chasing you for as long as you run. They have an anaesthetic type venom which leaves the victim partially imobile, although they do not usually bite humans

I remember when a little beetle thing crawled on my face when I was sleeping in a tent, nearly had a heart attack, think I would instantly die if I saw one of these. They move as fast as 15km/h, so you can't even run from them

It's two of them if you look closely. No hoax just made to look like one single spider. Still huge though

Only if you're a cripple, I run 12mph (19.3km/h) on my wife's treadmill with ease

although on sand might be different.

the bottom one has bitten the top one in the butt, they were obviously fighting over something

As you said try running that fast on sand. They also have much better stamina than a human so until there was other shade would be likely to keep following you

I think they may have been dead and pried together with the pincers, apparently they're on string together

<------runs away scared from the desert :(

 They are real, just the first picture is made to look like one spider when it is two. They are about half a foot in size, big enough to make me run !!

My mate serves in Afgan, when he came back he showed me some of the blitters he killed, these Camel spiders are nasty. One guy had a large septic cut, because he forgot to close his net, ended up with a chunk of leg missing.

not yet, will let you know as soon as they do:-D

Camel spiders aren't actually spiders! Count the legs!
#27
These are rife at the mo in Afghan, they are huge and can run as fast as you, sometimes faster if your a fat git.
They can still get through a mozzie net, they get theirselves so small its unbelievable, and they do bite, but not very often to humans...however...if they do bite, get it treated because a small flesh wound soon results in a massive amount of limb missing!!
#28
urghhh they're horrid

They hide in shaded areas, and under stuff, so you never really know when ones going to jump out! We had a lad who during contact, had to go through a nest of them, they were hanging from his webbing lol, he was pure dying to squeal like a woman, but obvo couldn't as rockets and RPG's were being let off all over the place! Funny stuff, but not if ya get me!

It's not a spider
And they shouldn't outrun a fit person. Top speed should be about 10 Mph as they have such small legs.

They are classified as spiders, although compared to scorpions more so. It has 8 legs the front two 'legs' are antenna's I think.
#37
When my mate was in Afghan last year in the Afghan summer, he said they were everywhere, he drives tanks so there was loads in the shadows. Just learnt to live with them, same with scorpions.
#38
it isnt spider its a solpugid it is classed in arachnida along with spiders but it isnt a spider......theyre everywhere there is a desert sw u.s, middle east , africa etc there are hundreds of different variations........bacteria will get you from biting nothing else
#39
I don't usually mind spiders but these give me the heebie jeebies
