I will warn you though, that the camping section is a fair walk from the clubhouse and swimming pool

Have a look on Google Maps, camping is at the far end.

i dont mind a walk how far is it from the beach????
#10
It's fairly close to the Newquay beach, about 2 miles.

Anything else you want to know, just ask, it's not the cheapest though, with it's proximity to Newquay

Hi -

I lived in Newquay for 5 yrs up to last year so I know the dump quite well.

If you're intending to camp in 1st week in August, then I doubt very much that Hendra or Trevella will have any room. They always get hit just like most of the other sites. As well as this, although they are only a mile or 2 out of town, it's not an easy walk to any of the beaches, especially if you have kids & are carrying beach stuff. And parking in Newquay, safely and cheaply, is non-existent.

There are better/easier places to camp that are also probably cheaper than these places so let me know & I will impart some of my local knowledge. I will also tell you where in Newquay to avoid. (which is most of it).

With having children, you might be better off going a bit further down to Perranporth (safer, cleaner, cheaper, less druggies on the streets) or as you say, go to proper Cornwall like St Ives. I know a very good, cheap site that will have a place for you by St Ives tat's great for kids of all ages.

Let me know if you need any info.

Col.

I've just booked St Ives Bay Holiday Park for this year (http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1480 , http://www.stivesbay.co.uk/indexalt1.htm ) Never been there before, so hope it's OK

Newquay is a **** hole was there last week. Though we got free parking in town centre due to the machines not working. Its only good for surfing. Head further west and go to a beach on the south. Para sands was really nice. St ives beach was even better.
#16
ok so st ives it is then cos newquay isnt sounding too clever now...glad i posted on here cos i just spent 800 quids on a bear lake 6 i would have gone to newquay and probaly never used the tent again lol

In st ives do not follow the signs for parking. Follow signs for town centre even better use sat nav and find the all day parking above the church grave yard (don't worry you won't notice it from the beach) its then a real short walk to the beach.

Peodude- St Ives Bay Hol Pk is very nice - you won't be disappointed. A great park in a great location - might be one for OP to consider if they do camping/tent pitches.

The problem with Newquay - and like I say i was living there and working in the tourism industry for 4-5 yrs - is that over the last couple of years it has transformed from a surfy-orientated family resort to a base for stag/hen parties, tramps and general low-lifes. It also has a bad druggy problem which the local powers-that-be just turn a blind eye to - or at least they will do until they run out of tourists.

I won't rant too much here because I've done it before, suffice to say, if I had children of any age, I certainly wouldn't take them on holiday there myself.

There's a multitude of other locations around that way to visit that are much more pleasant - Bude, Perranporth, St Ives, to name a few.

It is right on the beach, literally out of your tent into the sand.

I have heard that it can be a bit windy now and again, which is to be expected with the location, make sure you have some good pegs for sandy soil incase you need them.

If the kids like (or want to start) fishing, I recomend St Tinneys. Went there 3 years ago, and loved the place!

Perfect location, small farm on site, pub for you guys, walks, and fishing lakes just for campers!
#31
you spent £800 on a tent?

also its the relentless boardmasters festival that week so newquay will be full of younguns drinking smoking and drug taking, e.g me- ill be in newquay then
#32
