The test seems pretty easy and only takes around 5 minutes (gives 45 for some reason :S). Could anybody have a go a so I can see where I'm going wrong please?

This is shocking. That is not a real application and you're being tested on it? What is the point?
#5
I can only find advanced find, not advanced search, and advanced find doesn't work!

I know, its rubbish! I think its trying to look a bit like Outlook

That advanced thing is the right thing and you have to type the whole thing, 'mobile phone tariffs' tooks me ages to work that out lol!
#7
Where's the 'right-click' - this is not a fair way to test someone's software knowledge and ability.
#8
Second one, create appointment button doesn't work.

Is it just me?

This application is ridiculous - I'm completely shocked that anyone is using that to test someones ability.... it doesn't work correctly on any of the first 3 questions.

I've given up, lol!

This is the same as the training I used to have to do with ECDL with my students.

They expect things done in a very specific way and all other ways of doing things are disabled.

For instance the search for the mobile only works if you put in the full string ie Mobile Phone Tarrifs. You can also only add a new appointment to the calendar using the menu.

Training like this is no good for people who have already either learnt bad habits or have learnt quicker/different ways of doing things as you really must do everything very precisely and the way you were told in any training material or by the trainer which is why I stopped teaching ECDL and went back to teaching CLAIT and New CLAIT etc as you don't get penalised for how you do things as long as you do them correctly.

3rd one, it won't save the web address.

I gave up on the first one

Tell them to shove it! Until that pretend version of Outlook is fixed you might as well be taking a course in guesswork! I am an IT Technician - I work with Thunderbird and Outlook/Exchange everyday and I can't figure out what they want...

Pointless - I feel sorry for you.

Where is create appointment in the menus?

Why would you search for the whole string when it may not be worded exactly that way, I'd use words like mobile and pick it out from the results.

Me 2... so gave up lol

I got first 2 wrong (they don't work)

Next 4 right.

The things is they expect a newbie to use exactly what they are given and work on the assumption that you know that those exact 3 words appeared that way in the email and also that the more words you give the more precise your search results.

But remember - I agree with you, it is **** which is why I stopped teaching on courses which expected you to use these simulations. The reasons why they try and push people yo use them for training courses is to do away with teachers and trainers who can be there to give advice and show you all methods. They try and get all the so-called marking done by the software simulation which is useless as it dosen't cover all methods of how to do something.

You can't beat a flesh and blood teacher!

6/10!

That's because there's only 6 questions!!!

What idiot made this?

I assumed that there would be an advanced search function, there's not, it's advanced find! I quickly learnt not to assume that they've used the exact wording!!!

Yes thats what I was doing, trying mobile or phone or tariff and nothing was happening!

For the appointment you have to go file, new, appointment. I was double clicking the 5th July for about 10 minutes lol!

If I end up failing the test I'm going to complain, its rediculous! This stuff is really straight forward in other proper email programs.

They do some vocational GCSE's using stuff like this I think aswel!

lol I meant when entering the search words, they tell you exactly what the email is about that you are trying to find so they expect you to use all the words, but it is awful. Anyone IT savvy has to unlearn good practices to be able to pass these things which is why most if not all good IT people won't pass these as they are ridiculous!

I had something a bit like this before when I was at college, I ended up writing to the author of the book and she basically replied and said that I'm obviously so clever that I'll have no problems with the exam, didn't want to answer to the fact that there were loads of mistakes in her book!

I realised the bit about new appointment, just annoying that it makes you go the long way round.

I know, but seeing as they couldn't even get the words advanced find right I thought I wouldn't chance it on mobile phone tariffs (especially seeing as I usually spell tariffs wrong!)

hehe I know I did the same first time too and went back to repeat. I know some colleges now have cut down the number of IT lecturers and replaced them with these silly programs and then give you a trainer rather than a lecturer which means they don't need teaching qualifications, not even any IT qualification other than the one the next level up to what they are supposed to be helping people with. They pay them a pitance and the students suffer. Cost cutting! Pah!
#25
How the heck do you do the calendar one - everything I clicked wouldn't let me put a new appointment in! Stupid thing. I got 5/10. What waste of time!
#26
Just done the test and I passed :w00t:

Was the same similar stuff to that stupid practice test which helped.

Was a waste of time but at least ive got a useless certificate in ICT Applications lmao :-D
