I've looked at my rep and some have orange dots besie them and have given me points, and others are like grey oval things which have not given me points.

I was given rep for a listing about free cinema tickets, the first two I was given the orange dots for and pionts, the other one gave me a grey oval?

I'm totally confused. Have emailed hotukdeals, but got no answer a month on. Any ideas?

orange by someone who has rep, grey by someone who has no or little rep, the more rep someone has the more points you get by being repped by them

Grey means they are a new member and have rep'd you but it doesnt actually give you any points

Just to add a bit more information

Rep is normaly given or received when you help someone or when they help you. The rep adds the orange and red dots under your name

Yor status name "Pilot Light" changes as you post more post, over 500 Flame Thrower, then Solar Flare and so on.

And finally your feedback is when you buy or trade stuff.

So basically with the combination of this information you can get an idea of the person and trust them by selling them or buying them something.

True up until that last part. Rep and post count shouldn't have any weight when it comes to deciding if you can trust someone for trading, and feedback is only a guide that indicates how previous trades have gone. If you stick to the trading rules and get the full details + working landline number of everyone you trade with you shouldn't have any problems that aren't solvable, but never factor rep/pc into the equation and don't assume that because someone has lots of rep/pc/feedback that they are trustworthy and you don't need their details

Is this for real or what?

Seriously... the amount of buckos on here with an ultra high post count and high rep should really make you think twice about that statement.

Well that's why I said that with the combination of this information.

Would you want to trade with someone that has few posts or no rep, but tons of feedback ?.

You still need their contact details I am not arguing with that.

I guess until now I have been quite lucky and all my trades have been really smooth.

Rep wouldn't come into it at all. There are people with (almost) full rep off a single post, so it really tells you nothing. If someone had very few posts but lots of (genuine) FS/FT feedback I would assume they mostly used the FS forum and not others, and it certainly wouldn't put me off trading with them
