I'm driving up to visit a friend in Lodnon on Friday evening - anyone have any experience of the average traffic situation on this road at between 7-9pm? :) Read More

Try to go up in the early afternoon and you should be OK. I do that journey often (From Hayling Island to London) and it isn't untill 4.30ish that the traffic begins to build up through to about 6

Later than 7 pm and should have eased off most of the way

Will be much better once the tunnel is finally open. ;-)

around guildford can get particularly bad around 5-7pm, but the time you are going should be fine

Although I don't do the journey as regular as i used to, I do find that by 7 the traffic has mostly eased, but I couldn't argue too much if you find otherwise these days.

Watch out for the roadworks around Hindhead where they're building the tunnel, they're a nightmare, and they've kindly started resurfacing immediately after that too so be prepared for a couple of miles at 50mph with average speed cameras.

Brilliant - thanks everyone. Did it last month and it was horrific - a couple of accidents but I was on a bike so nipped through no problems - didn't want to get into London at midnight! :)

If its lumpy before Hindhead, take exit for Haslemere then head to Milford and pick up A3 again, shouldn't really need to at that time though. Fri eve at that time you should have no trouble, based on past experience but in reality its a bit like asking if its going to rain on September 17th next year!
