hiya guys just wondering if anyone can help me out with a bit of advice.
A year and a half a go i had an exchange with some one for my house ,to get to the area that i wanted. The house that i moved into was in bad condition but because it was in the area i wanted i accepted it
I have paid for a lot of the jobs to be done had the house replastered , changed doors ect. ,now my big concern is the heating my house is open plan and quiet large. the only heating we have is economy 7 storage heaters that are very old , dont give out a lot of heat and are very expensive, every winter me and my son are endlessly ill and suffering with colds because of these . does anybody know if i can get an housing association o put me central heating in or knock my arch way out so that my front is not open plan
thanks

you might be entitled to a council grant for wall insulation or heating you can only ask

If you are in receipt of certain benefits then you would be entitled to a warm front grant..
This is the website www.warmfront.co.uk/ you need to visit.

The grant covers you and not the property but I would imagine you would need the landlords permission but couldnt see them refusing could you as the work is being paid for by a grant.

If you own your own home or rent it from a private landlord and you receive one of the following, you should be eligible for a central heating grant

the grant is for home owners or private landlord tenants.

It is your housing association responsibility to to change any heating,if them storage heaters are working fine in their eyes then they won't change likely. Then I suggest getting a letter off GP if he/she thinks it's affecting your health.
Although it doesn't help if you home conditions are poor,it's virus that causes colds, not living in poorly heated places as such.

As far as I am aware the Housing Association will not change your heating.

We lived in a HA house and had coal-fired central heating which was totally inadequate. In my bedroom it was 9 degrees some nights which was stupidly cold!
They had letters from doctors & health visitors saying it was not good and needed changing due to my sons ill health and they still refused.
They do not spend money unless they absolutely have to.
If you want to take out the archway you may have to get their permission in writing. Although how often do they come around and check things so you could probably get away with doing it and not telling them.
In the end we moved to a privately rented house with oil central heating & no damp.

Maybe I should just pay my taxes directly to you for you to knock your arch way out?

Why? She is asking if her landlord should do the work, why on earth would you think that was anything to do with your taxes?
Housing associations are (well certainly round here) not paid for by the goverment

What's all that about? Living in Council or Housing association places doesn't mean you pay NO rent!

Pretty sure the main one around here is either directly or indirectly funded or at least assisted by local government, and therefore, me.

Happy to retract if PROVEN incorrect, but at the moment, I stand by it.

OP you don't have to explain yourself to us...but I understand it's annoying when people seem to judge you (which some on HUKD do quite a lot).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Housing_association

Housing associations' day-to-day activities are funded by rent and service charges payments made by, or on behalf of those living in its properties. In this sense, housing associations are run as commercial entities and the majority do not depend on donations for their general activities.

The exception being new housing which grants are available for.

It doesn't really matter anyway, if the heating isn't adequate then the landlord should be sorting it out, goverment funded or not.
