Hi my daughter has a 3g she bought 2nd hand from Ebay and its locked to 02. Shes had it a while and wants to upgrade. A friend has offered to buy it but shes on Vodafone. If she asks 02 to unlock it and quotes another friends 02 contract details will they do it for free? Will it matter that the phone is not on that contract? Thanks

O2 will check that the phone they've been asked to unlock has been used on the number that's requesting the unlock. If it hasn't they won't.
The network logs the imei of the phone everytime it's used, so the know which numbers (sims) have been used with which phones.

The other way to do it, would be to get an O2 payg sim, top it up with £20 and then use a couple of quid of the credit texting etc and then ask for the unlock using that number. They'll take a fee of £15 for the unlock and it'll be done in a few days. . .

Thinking about this a bit, she ran it on 02 pay as you go for a while then changed to giffgaff (still 02 really) and took her number which she still uses now, do you think they'll unlock for £15 as she was/is an 02 customer
