£5.99, no thrills but does the job and certainly not too bright at night (which also annoys the hell out of me)

I've found if you go for a red numerical display, they don't light up the room as much as blue.

I have a very old (about 20 years) green digital clock which lights up the room as much as a bedside light. Didn't mind as a kid though.....don't know about current ones.

Avoid this one:

Can you compare to green ?


I think red is the colour of choice over all others as it's what they use on boats at night time as it doesn't infringe on thier night vision. Sure there is some science behind 'why' but I've no idea. Maybe being the lowest/highest wavelength on the visible light scale before becoming infra-red... ??

Anyway, I've gone through tons of these things and they've either lit up the room or made me see the time after I've closed my eyes! Red is the way forward my friend!! :-D
