Can anyone tell me if a tmobile sim can be put in an iphone 4s on orange that has not been unlocked?

As the title says.

I have an iphone 4s on orange that I'm hoping to sell but someone has asked if a tmobile sim can be used, even though the phone has not been unlocked.

I know tmobile and orange have teamed up to give better coverage but not sure if you can use the others sims?

Pretty sure you can't, as orange and t-mobile work as different companies, but have the same owner

you could just try and find out

I don't have a tmobile micro sim and can't get the phone anywhere to try it today. That is why I'm asking the peeps of hotukdeals :)

from orange website:

No, a T-Mobile SIM won’t work in an Orange phone. Apart from being able to make calls, send texts and benefit from fast internet in more places than before, nothing else changes.

It did work, i was quite happy thinking the phone came unlocked. If what you're saying is right, it may not be? I want to unlock it to all networks.

don't quote me on this but I've been given to understand that since the tmobile /orange merger , the IP handsets sold by their stores now emerge from the same main warehouse stock and therefore as the handsets could either be sold on orange or Tmobile , they have to come unlocked and it's only when the first tmob or orange sim card is inserted in the brand new phone that handset then locks itself to a particular network ( tmob or Orange). The upshot of this apparently is that if you bought a handset in a tmob or orange store & never inserted either networks sim but instead inserted a sim of your choice ..lets say an O2 sim for arguments sake , the phone would the work on O2 ..apparently whichever first sim card you insert into a brand-new everything-everywhere Iphone handset writes some info to the phone which locks it to a specific network .. i understand though that this is only for tmob/orange IP bought handsets...something to do with an exploit in everything everywhere signal reception

Yeah, its not. Tried with vodafone simcard it said invalid sim. Orange said it wont unlock before 3 months of registering the phone. Apple wont unlock cos I bought it from Orange. (I was cheeky and tried :p ) Phone unlocking shop wants £50. Its fun :D
