Can't figure out what the red ON / OFF switch on my car battery charger is supposed to do. I have tried everything but it all works regardless of the position of the switch. Any ideas? Read More

What make and model is it?

could be a battery boost function
ie if the battery is not dead it gives a burst of power allowing you to start the car quickly rather than waiting for it to charge
it might not be that but our truck charger has the same function

It is a booster

when you say it is a booster, are you confirming that the switch is infact the boost charge function or just that the charger is a booster?

Yep, the charger is a booster / jumpstart - similar to this one

I have that booster/jump starter or a very similar one and the switch is for use when jump starting (not boosting)

so the switch is to activate the boost function then.
(when it's off it just trickle charges)

So it isn't a " charger " at all then.
