Dont think one pack of sweets would have made a difference, people can consume up to about 40g of sorbitol without experiencing a laxative effect.

Glucose Syrup , Sugar , Vegetable Oil , Mixed Fruit Juice from Concentrate 2.5% (Grape, Blackcurrant, Raspberry) , Lactic Acid , Egg White , Vimto Flavouring (including Natural Extracts of Fruit, Herbs and Spices) , Citric Acid , Hydrolysed Rice Protein , Colour: Anthocyanin .

They normally mention on the packet about laxative effects don't they? Like Tic Tacs etc.

no it could have been something else but that was the only thing he ate that he hasnt had before...and i thought that the mints and chewies with sorbitol shouldnt be given to kids should it?

it was prob the fact that the sweets he ate was full of chemicals that lead to him on the toilet all night.

yeh thats what made me think of the sweets! thanks for sharing :p
its not that he isnt allowed them just he didnt like..but made an exception for the vimto!

I wouldn't think they would be such a problem unless your kid doesn't normally eat anything like that. If they're used to a totally sweet free diet, then obvo it's gonna have some effect.

This thread makes me remember when I was in high school, mints and chewing gum were all the rage, most kids/girls skipped dinner, diets etc, but ate lots of mints, can't remember the name but do remember the after effects of girls who had more than one packet per day, wasn't nice, very laxative, lol.

Yes they have the wax, they've been pretty good, few bad days when they first were fitted, which was expected, I was so worried about them, for the pain and for the (what will the other kids think thing) but the pair of them have done me proud, think my lectures have paid off well, they even brush their teeth at school/dinner time. Never thought they would, but braces seem to be quite common now, so they haven't been too bothered at school. I think most of their class mates are needing them, so they're kinda looking at my 2 to see what happens. They've been ok, I'm hoping it's worth it, worth a try anyway eh? Just got to be religious on keeping them clean, that's the hard thing, and that's not cheap either is it? They're doing well now though, so fingers crossed.

just take care they dont overdo the fluoride cos my youngest girl has white marks on her lovely straight teeth. A lot of kids have them or will be on the wait list..dont think either of mine cared-in fact they loved going back to get the 'diamonds' changed on them-my youngest used to pick her colour..when it was near her prom she chose to match her dress..but thankfully they were off in 6 months..and she had huge gaps cos had 4 teeth out. The dentist advised she could choose to have or not cos they actually were straight just a little overcrowded, but i could see they would be worse after wisdoms arrived and she wanted them so much she pushed til they gave them to her!
im sure you will see rapid results-just have the painkillers cos sometimes they move so fast they ache!
