Can I claim on Paypal if I sent a payment gifted personal ??

I bought an item (a peppa pig george castle playset) from a person who replied to my wanted thread for this item and it appears that they have scammed and ripped me and other people off on here.

I am just wanting to know if I can claim on paypal for a gifted personal payment that has been completed ??

It was the last of my 3-year old son's christmas money and I am trying to replace it for him as it is not his fault and he waits by the door every morning asking if his peppa pig castle is coming today, I feel awful about it :(

I saw your thread when you posted it and cant believe someone has knowingly stolen from your lil boy, thats awful - hope you get it sorted somehow but unfortunately paying personal is risky x

I do not have her phone number and other people have rang her as they have also been ripped off and her phone is just ringing apparantley, \I have her e-mail address and I have sent her several messages but no reply, I really don't know what I am going to do, I am new on here and this was onyl the 3rd item I had bought, how could I of been so stupid sending a payment to a new member, I should have asked her to send the playset first, I will kick myself forever about this, what do I tell my son now ?? :(

Yeah i remember reading about this in the actual thread and also in the other threads that started earlier on...someone asking about getting police involved over a mobile phone that hadnt turned up

ffs get a grip, your child is 3, you got ripped off, think yourself lucky it was only £23 and not £123
#10
Yes, I can give him the £23.00 back but then I am out of pocket, I really cannot afford it as I have four children under the age of 10 as well. Has put me off of buying on here, that's for sure.

then why have you just started a wanted thread:roll:
#12
Yes, I got ripped off and please don't be rude, I am just trying to get the money back, thank you !!!
#13
I have started a wanted thread because I still need the castle playset (obviously), I thought maybe somebody else might have one available for sale.
#14
Its horrible when it happens and I feel for you

There are rules which in nearly all instances if followed on here stop this sort of thing happening

Not much chance of you getting your money back I'm afraid, put it down to experience and hopefully learn from it

That's confusing me now. :?

Sadly you won't see the money again i'm afraid. Unfortunately you aren't the first or the last this will happen to on here.
#16
Yes, I think you are right, I will just have to put it down to experience, thank you for understanding my frustration, some people are helpful on here:)
#17
This is why you should be careful who you buy from same thing happens on ebay, has nothing to do with the people on here or the rules.

Check past feedback and threads you can see a sellers attitude and progression through the trade.

Use trusted Sellers.
#18
No confusion, it has put me off of buying on here, I probably still will buy on here though, I put the wanted thread up in case anybody else could help me replacing the toy for my son, no problem with that.

Final PM sent to OP. FS/FT restrictions are imposed on the member so they can't access any threads within fs/ft.

Access to the rest of the site remains open as an incentive to complete/respond.

As always, following the fs/ft rules to the full, including verification, is likely to reduce the risk of being scammed and should allow you to take action away from the board should communications here not prove successful.

what a miserable old goat you are! she is only asking for help... yes she might have been naive but the last thing she needs is for you to be at her. why dont you go knock on the neighbors door and complain about something instead?

#23

It should not put you off buying off here, as there are many sales on here that go perfectly. Best bet is to check their feedback - if they don't have much on here, see if they have any on eBay etc. But number one rule, don't send ANY payment until identity & trustworthy can be confirmed.

Think you may have to count your losses on this sale, and be grateful it wasn't alot more money you had parted with .

Tbh though, although ebay too has scams, at least there you have the comeback of buyer protection if you are scammed.

I have always said on here I wouldn't spend what I could not afford to loose, if I can't afford to loose it I will use another store or ebay where Im fully covered. I think the most I have spent here was about £70 from a very trusted member, I was still nervous though lol.

But everyone is right it's about common sense, but I still would be carfeul with large sums to yourself, as older "trusted" members let people down too, there was one mentioned on the tinkerbellxx thread.

Partially true, though scammers are using better ways to scam these days. Paypal no longer 100% protects.

Tip if you use the rules here about getting the OP's full address check it here agains't the names on the register. www.192.com

Some people need to get a life, I am not after sympathy, just trying to get the money back, that's all, of course my 3-year old dosen't use this site, for god's sake grow up !!!
#29
Just out of interest even if buyer had paid normally over paypal (protected or whatever it's called) what are the chances they would get their money back anyway?

I thought only transactions through ebay were covered, so it doesnt matter if you pay via gift or not on here

Its a shame.. but it seems the internet is their ''life'' ... and making others feel bad/stupid is all part of their daily routine ,,albeit via a keyboard.

Anyway, lesson learned!
#32
Yeah, I agree, thank you rumblefish, I know I have been stupid I don't need it being rubbed in or something !!!, God some people should keep their opinions to themselves.

thread ended in the usual way

It don't matter if it was 23 quid or 223 quid, its the principle. The op is clearly desperate about the situation and is asking for advice not a slating. Yes they were silly, and yes they will learn by their mistakes but not everybody is a FS/FT expert.
Op i also am out of pocket by 2 members on here. It was purely my own fault for putting trust into the people, clearly not everybody is into earning their cash the hard way. Good luck and if its the palace you want, Asda have it for 19.99 on half price offer.
#35
Well said, thank you, it is the palace I am after, I will look on the Asda website. Thank you. Sharon xx
#36
I am NEW to this, come on be fair ffs

i see they were online today
