DVI is an early digital video input standard that was widely used in computer monitors and in some HDTVs before HDMI became the industry standard HDTV digital video connection. There are HDMI-to-DVI adapters that enable a monitor that has only a DVI port to receive video, but not audio, over an HDMI cable. However, this solution can be unreliable because the Xbox 360 console is designed to communicate with the HDTV by using the HDMI protocol. Using the DVI port of a monitor may work. However, this method is not supported.

oh so it probably wont work.

The above post isn't entirely accurate - HDMI is fully compatible with DVI, you can drive a DVI monitor from an HDMI source however you have no audio and no guaranteed HDCP (some DVI systems support HDCP although most don't). For sound you can use the audio breakout supplied with the Elite and as far as I'm aware the Elite doesn't use HDCP (apart from possibly HD DVDs), if you search you'll find examples of this working. It wouldn't work for the PS3 which does use HDCP though.

The data is incorrect - if you read up on HDMI/DVI you will find it out yourself, this is a good starting point:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdmi

Essentially HDMI is an extended version of DVI, also in future if you are copying text word for word from another source which you have not written yourself you should indicate it as such.

Thanks,

Don't trust wiki anyone can update it. It maybe incorrect in your way but MS don't support it thats the bottom line, as every MOD says here repeatedly, rules are rules.

Quote word for word:- so you don't look wrong again.

I said it's a [i]starting point[i] - there are plenty of sources there to read from there on in. Or you can use Google and read up on the hdmi spec your own way (the official HDMI spec page backs up exactly what is said on Wikipedia), at the same point you can also look for the experiences of people currently running their Elites through DVI non-HDCP monitors. If you actually do this you will find I am not 'wrong' but it seems you are better at producing snide remarks instead of taking the time to research the subject you are trying to talk about.

I cannot advocate what can xbox 360 could/can do unofficially.

In other words you can't be bothered doing your own research and just call foul on any links posted - how helpful.

Can't be bothered to argue about it, will only lead more issues. The MS line is they don't support it. Don't need to research that really, same as advocating illegal downloads this is not the forum to do it.
