As per the title. I fancy getting Sky HD installed but don't have a phone line and refuse to pay BT £130 to reconnect it as its a rented property and it previously had a BT line so don't think charge is fair especially as I won't be using phone

i just got sky plus installed without a phone line so I don't see why not. In saying that I am waiting on Sky activating my phone line for me. They charged a 1 off payment of £25 to get it up and running with £10 line rental.

If it previously had a bt line and the line is still there BT don't charge to reconnect

Yes you can get sky hd without a telephone line, however you have to pay an extra amount, can't be certain exactly how much it is. I think it was around £25
Just call sky and ask for a no telephone line install and see how much extra it is

The contract states you must keep your active phone line connected to sky otherwise they cancel the contractt - so chances are no

Yes it previously had BT line but BT want to chage a reconnection fee of £130.

I was hoping it would just be an additional one off payment of something like £25 then II'd go for it. Just don't want to call up Sky and have them try to sell me everything under the sun before they'll answer my question lol

What you can do is go on the sky site and pretend you want to sign up and then this little box will appear to the right and basically its an online chat thing for any queries so subscribing try that save you ringing

Sky paid my £125 connection fee.

Give them a call, they'll probably do the same for you. Some form or somthing is needed, I faxed them my BT bill and they added the amount to my sky account. Simples.

BT tried to charge me that when I moved here. A friend who was an ex bt engineer looked at the line and said it was all fine (BT claimed it wasnt their line, hence why they wanted me to pay, despite the bt box still being there!)
So they basically want to charge that, to flick a few switches at their end. No chance. A bit of arguing and threatening to go elsewhere (no other option as no cable here!) and they changed their tune.
I have heard of others where sky has paid the bill as well, so definetely an option.
