Can I pull out of an ebay purchase?

won a mirror for 99p which is local pick up only. The sellers location stated Hove which is 4 miles from me but now have been sent an address in woodingdean which is an extra 12 miles each way!

I only bid 99p due to it being about a quid in petrol and a 5 minute drive. Now its about £6 in petrol and a 35 minute drive.

Morally, I think I'm within my rights to pull out of the purchase, especially as the seller states they cant guarantee a time when they will be in so its pot luck :(

i dont see why not, this happened to me with a table i bid on, it ended up being further away, i won it for £30 but i payed him £5 for wasting his time which he was ok with. see what he says and if hes being funny with you maybe just pay the £1 and dont bother getting it.

i cant see why they would bother really its only 99p.

I had something like this done to me years ago, his statement said Brighton, and thus already sorted a mate to give me a lift (as it was still worth my while) from Littlehampton. But when he messaged me he gave me an address in Newcastle :woot:

He tried stating that I was in a legally binding contract, and he escalated it on ebay/paypal, and within about an hour they found in my favour due to the location being incorrect!

Upon reflection I'd just pay and not bother picking it up as its only 99p. If you travelled 12 miles to get the mirror, you might never be able to look yourself in the face again.

thanks - that was my thoughts too. I dont want to pay anything out of principle even if it is only 99p lol :-D

maybe seller didnt want to sell at sale price hence changing location to newcastle! I would have played their game and said I;m up that way next week so what time for pickup lol

That was my argument as well that he stated it was elsewhere, considering both ebay and paypal never had an address for him up that way!

If i were you i'd still send a Paypal payment as you can be filed as a non paying bidder otherwise.

Then claim INR.

Have you spoken to the seller at all............

yep - asked them to confirm they will definitely be today in else I wont be picking up. Guess its easier to just ask them to cancel the transaction.

is it still not a good deal for 99p and you still collect???
+£6 petrol

If it's as you suspect and they simply don't wish to sell for 99p then ask them to mutually cancel and see what they say.

they refused and sent this email

[COLOR=#000000][FONT=arial,sans-serif]no I will not cancel it you bought you collect it if you dont I will report you.
it stated local bids only if it was too far for you then why bid.

I'm gonna just pay her and get a refund as item not as descibed cos of the 24 mile extra distance lol

then neg her

Report the seller for false contact details if the address is different.:whistling:

For the sake of 99p i'd pay it AND neg her.

Otherwise they might get it removed if you've been in a dispute about it.

I didn't notice the date, I hope you managed to sort this one out though.

Regarding my thread I managed to get the £70 difference back so not all bad news.
