If I get ID'd whilst doing my weekly shop, I'll be leaving the whole lot at the checkout.

It's a joke. You expect certain privileges when you get to a certain age, and I for one am NOT carrying ID just to satisfy some spotty teenager on minimum wage on a checkout.

This bloody government would love us all to carry ID at all times, this is another covert step in that direction.

Get over yourself! Yes you expect certain priveledges, such as being able to buy alcohol! The reason they ask for ID is to cover their backs from mystery shoppers employed by police/councils to crack down on underage alcohol sales. Whats the big deal? If you want to buy booze, carry an ID, whats the big problem?

Come ON!

I DON'T look 17. or 21. or 25.

You see these stupid signs at checkouts "think 21" or the 25 year old equivalent.
Fair enough if it's some deadbeat with a tracksuit buying some cider and lighter gas.
Not an OBVIOUS professional in a suit buying a bottle of wine and some German weissbier.
A bit of common sense is all that's required here...

(mind you, min. wage doesn't buy much common sense...)
#16
Do you look an obvious professional though? I'm sure plenty of 17 year olds both own a suit and enjoy wine. Its not really a big deal though is it - you know they will ask if you might be under 25, they make that pretty clear throughout the stores, and they could get in serious trouble if they didn't (not just fired but also fined and prosecuted!).

Why the big chip about checkout and store workers anyway, or anyone on min. wage - what do you do thats so great and worthy?

You're obviously out to prove a point here, good for you.

Make sure you carry your ID everywhere you go. I'm pretty sure they enjoyed doing just that in Nazi Germany. People like you didn't see a problem with it then either...
#18
I don't need to take it everywhere I go, but I know if I'm buying booze at a supermarket its best to take it. Whats the big deal though? Its just a picture of me with my name on - nothing else that I don't carry round with me in my wallet anyway.

And Grex, for you info, whilst the might have done it Nazi Germany, they did of course also do it here in good ol' Blighty - so what point exactly are you trying to make?

It was wrong then. It still is now.

The point is obviously lost on the likes of you, I'm not wasting my time trying to explain it to you further

Well, why not let the government install a tracking device in your body, monitor all your communications, and put surveillance cameras in every room in your home?

You have nothing to hide, so why not?

 The point is that you have a right old chip on your shoulder about shop-workers, people on minimum wage etc. as you consider yourself a 'professional' and thus above them, and a deep sense of paranoia that people asking for evidence that your old enough to buy booze in a shop is big brother watching you.

Its okay - you don't really need to explain that to me any further!

boll*cks to your theory - I worked in a supermarket on a checkout for £2.15 an hour not that long ago....

Do you ever get bored of being wrong?

And it's muppets like you that'll further encourage this surveillance society we live in. Why not volunteer to be tracked everywhere you go? I mean, you have nothing to hide, eh?
I'll employ someone to be at your side 24hrs a day; in the toilet, on the job etc. That should be ok too? And we can arrange random drugs and lie detector tests....

You have nothing to hide, so PM me your details and we can arrange that.

So why on earth make comments like "mind you, min. wage doesn't buy much common sense..." and "some spotty teenager on minimum wage on a checkout" if you were that guy a few years ago? Makes no sense whatsoever. And what do you do now thats so great that makes you look down on people like that?

PS Cheers dcx_badass, couldn't remember the name of that for the life of me but glad someone brought it up :)!

It'll make sense when (and if) you grow up.

And imagine someone referencing Nazi Germany in a thread regarding requests for ID. It's almost like they're related!!!

Jeez.......I give up. It's like talking to someone less fortunate. :?

My OH got asked for ID at Butlins last year.
We both just laughed at the poor girl behind the bar who went bright red when my gf showed her the id and she realised that my OH was 28 lol.
