That didnt work, unfortunately, I am not usually to bad at things like this but instructions in the box would have helped me. :)

You can manually configure the router by accessing it through IE.

usually type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. I think virgin either uses the username/password to the router as:

admin/admin
virgin/admin
virgin/password

Then its just a case of setting up the router and/or wireless settings to your specification. I.E. SSID name , passphrase, mac address filtering and broadcast.

It can be daunting but its not conplicated once you get your head around it. BTW the router will automatically configure the WAN settings... its just your LAN settings that need to be assigned. In laymens terms WAN = the outside world LAN = your internal network.

EDIT: i always never use internet provider setup cds coz they install so much crayp on top of everything. Most of the stuff you DO NOT need.

Had a go this morning will have another go in a minute, and let you know. ! Any more help graetly appreciated!

BTW to manually setup the router you will need a wired connection at first. The ethernet RJ45 cable that came in the box.

Yes I have that cable. so from my original wired modem do I take the cable out if that one and put it in the wireless router!

It should be

Modem plugged into wall - router plugged into modem - pc plugged into router.

Some routers come unconfigured with wireless first off. Done 1 sky and 1 TalkTalk wireless setup 2 weeks ago and both had to be enabled wired first before the wireless was active.

Thanks so much for all your help, my neighbour has done it for me and all up and running Rep to both x

I got a brand new installation of virgin broadband with wireless router.

The setup CD cant detect my built in Wireless Adaptor (even though it can detact current wireless networks so it is obvoiusly functioning).
I was thinking i should just give up on the setup CD and try this direct method suggested above.
Not sure what details i will need (I.E SSID etc) - plus im nervous of ******ing things up completely.

any advice?

I would ignore the setup cd. Its not a necessary part of the installation at all.

I would plug it all in, and use a cable to connect your computer to the router. Make sure everything is working, then set up the wireless.

Thanks for the reply. (not a whisper from virgin after lots of pleading for help)

I will give it a go

Hopefully, following this will do the job - though its new stuff to me. (i think i'll do a little bit of research before going for it).

okay - so it was a piece of cake. Even for a first time wireless user.

Gotta recommend this site for general wireless setup info
