Always confused me.

Its things like what happen in the Labyrinth film when shes got a choice of 2 doors

One leads to certain doom and other right to castle.

Theres 2 guards 1 tells the truth one lies.

She can only ask one question in order to find the right one.

How does she work out which one it is and which one is lying.

As a result you always get the lie as the answer. It's really very simple. If you ask one door what the other door would say (nevermind which one's truthful or lying) you will automatically get the lie as the answer by default.

In the movie thats like what she did, she asked one of them if the other would tell her that the first door would lead to the castle and then then chose the other door than what she was told.

correct.

but id worked it out before when i watched it but couldnt be bothered to write it out

You don't need to, the OP's question isn't quite correct

You have only 1 question in total not one each. One of the guards will lie one wont.

Each stands in front of a door, one leads to castle one to certain doom.

She needs to find out which door goes to the castle but she doesnt know which one will lie so needs to use her 1 question to find out the correct door by catching out one of them.

Google is discussion's enemy.

:giggle:

* you have 2 doors one leads to heaven (A) and one leads to hell (B)

* a man wants to get to heaven but doesnt know which door leads where

* there are 2 gate keepers who both know which door is which, but one will always lie to him and one will always tell the truth.

* the man can ask one question to determine which door is which.

* the question the man should ask is " if i ask the other gate keeper which door to take, what would he tell me."

this works because

*if he asks the liar this question, the liar will lie and say that the truthfull gate keeper will say door B.

*if he asks the truthfull gatekeeper this question, he will tell the truth and say that the liar will lie and say door B.

so the man takes door A and goes to heaven.

god i must be bored this morning.

I assume you're talking about Amy Winehouse. :-D
