hi all i need some advice here we have just got a new wireless box off aol and it holds 4 computers.
now yesterday we was on the phone to aol as the box would connect to the laptop but not the internet she went through all the settings and we got it on.
we then could get the other 3 laptops sorted now ive got 2 of them on internet but the last one wont go online without the yellow cable in i have been back on the phone and they are just feeding me rubbish telling me its my computer that the wireless card must be broke now i know its not that as it will connect to wireless just not mine so they have just left it like this and refuse to do anything else.
so please if you know anything else i can try please let me know.
its really annoying as just signed up for another 18 months to get the free wireless and phone deal with them but i obviously want mine wireless as well.

it connect to the computer but not to the interenet
#6
no 3 are connected to it and got on internet no problems i have all the settings but for some reason this laptop will not go on internet wireless only with yellow cable in.
#7
Make sure all your laptops are enabled to connect wirelessly.
#8
dcx of course i have i got 3 other laptops on working no probs just this one isnt doing it i have entered all security password etc and gone through all setting they advised but it just wont work wireless if i unplug the yellow cable when you go into the network and sharing centre it shows you its connected to the computer but has a big fat red cross to the internet.
i am clueless managed 2 of the others by just entering passwords and done.
the other aol did for us as had same probs as this one thats now working but this one isnt?
#9
because if i take the laptop to my mums it connects to here wireless dcx thats why!!

So AOL are right, it's your fault and not there's,I'm out before you try and blame it on me instead of AOL.

Forgetting the key for a moment have you even selected the wireless network on the laptop or are you just assuming it's all magic and the wifi fairy will do it?

you sound like a dragon, im in.
#11
dcx can you explain if its a joke that 3 work and one doesnt that it must be my laptop then how come it will connect to my mums wireless but not my own.
that tells me theres nothing wrong with my computer connecting wireless it must be a setting with aol but its like talking to the wall when you speak to them.

Its not a setting with them if its only one laptop. Open the settings on one of the laptops that works and compare with the one that doesnt. Make sure every radio box thats ticked is ticked etc
#13
on the laptop that does not work via wireless, which operating system are you using ? and what laptop is it ? make / model.
banned#14
Shall I call round to sort it for you? (_;)

Good luck!
#15
I would give AOL another call and go through the laptop settings once again, there might be something they missed the first time around, and you may speak to someone who is a bit more helpfull

as soon as you connect one wirelessly it proves it works, you have 3 so no question, clearly it's something you are doing wrong with the 4th

right looking at it i have another connection(mavel yukon) havent a clue what it is but if i disable it my computer will not connect to the wireless wire in or not so before when i thought it was working with the cable in it was actually working on this marvel yukon rather than the wireless.
i am completely confused now.
i am running on vista my laptop is samsung r510.
never had as many probs with any other laptop than this one.
the only reason i tried to disconnect this marvel yukon to see if it worked was because a couple of months ago i was having problems with connections and aol told me to disconnect it and went through everything with me and told me the internet was down in my area after 3 days they told me it was my computer so i started to go through everything and enabled this marvel yukon again and boom internet was back on so aol obviously dont know they face from there ar*e.
sorry to go on and on but i am sick to the back teeth with all this.

so basically my laptop will not connect wire in or not with the wireless but it will with marvel yukon (wire in only) anyone know what this is?
i have had it connected to a belkin wireless in the past so know i dont need to do any wireless button(cant find one anyway.)

Well the reason why it wouldnt work without the marvel yukon is because thats your network driver and network configuration utility, its needed to connect to any network. And if by 'yellow cable' you mean an ethernet cable the of course it wasnt working on wireless, it was a wired connection!

Well the reason why it wouldnt work without the marvel yukon is because thats your network driver, its needed to connect to any network.

What exactly happens eg what does the icon in tray do/ look like ? update the driver via windows update or from laptop manufacturer site or wireless card manufacturers site. ..triple check the WEP key or the WPA key you're using and make sure the SSID matches if not on Auto profile. can you get a screen shot uploaded on here of the network page / device manager / etc.

if there is an option for 802.11x and it's ticked untick it. use DHCP in the router and get an Ip automatically under vista network tcp/ip settings, try unticking ipv6 from the network properties page as well

if using WEP try open .. then try shared key.

right get you so basically thats the only thing my laptop is running on is the marvel yukon because it my network.can that work on its own or does it mean the wireless box is working which it must be as that where the cable goes into(ethernet).
god i am soooo confused.
#23

yeah weve done all that anyway but have just gone back through it but still no working.
#24
The Marvel Yukon connection is just the wired ethernet connection and is nothing to do with the wireless card which is a total seperate piece of hardware, If you follow the instructions on the link i provided you will see if you wireless finds the router,
