My ipod has died and I think its the battery, I've had it for ages its the older style without colour screen and 20g. I need it replaced asap as Its needed for a holiday. I bought a battery from ebay for my brothers ipod a while ago and it only lasted a few months and that 2 needs replacing so not sure about doing that again.
Was wondering how much apple charge to replace it and how long they take? Do I need to take it in store or send it off? I tried calling the customer service but they are closed.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Apple charge a ridiculous price to replace batteries. My sister's nano cost about £90 and they wanted around £50 to replace the battery.

All you need to do is use a blunt knife run around the edge of the ipod and open it into two parts. Then just lift up the old battery, unsolder it, solder in the new one and put it together again. This was what I did with the nano but should be similar for any ipod.

You will need a soldering iron with a thin tip though and in some cases soldering is not even required. Search youtube for 'replacing ipod battery', there are loads of videos to help.

Yeah I have done it before, just wanted to know the cost and if it had to be sent away or if they did it in the store while you wait. Thought that it would be a better quality as the last one didn't last long. Thanks for your help, looks like I'll be better off getting one from ebay.

Maplin sell them, I have replaced a few with ebay ones and they haven't been the best quality to be honest.

In terms of high street shops (I am not a fan of maplin) but their iPod batteries seem to be ok, and they are not extortionately priced.
