the other day i advertised an xbox 360 steering wheel it costs £10.99 to post, ebay said you cant advertise it for more than £5.00 postage.

i think i have decided to steer clear of ebay now forever lol
Its a damn good idea to stop people over charging on postage. Try diferent sections as postage changes.
Ebay don't make money on postage so they minimise this to boost sale prices and their profits.
i cant wait for google to bring out there auction site , i hope they give ebay a run for there money
Ebay have started setting postage rates as you've now found out.

ALL dvd's have to be free P+P so you have to factor it into the selling price.
Good idea imo, stops these idiots selling items for 1p and charging like 17.99 postage !
Makes me lol that people have been saying that google will do their own auction site. People have been saying this for 4/5 years now. I doubt it will ever happen.
ebay just wants a slice of the postage action, profits are down so they come up with new ways of scamming you

also there are a lot of professional dvd sellers who advertise a dvd then when you buy it they order it from hmv/play etc with free postage to your door....... having the cheek to charge you for postage then hmv deliver it for free

i complained about this to ebay heaps and they changed the rules just for me and my complaints

never even heard of google doin an auction site?
why are people so stupid to go to ebay for an item, just do a dvd search and they will find it cheaper elsewhere.

still makes me laugh when people buy a £25 marks and spencer voucher for £22 plus £2 postage

mate ive had things on there identical desription and different wouldnt even believe the amount of people that have paid for the more expensive 1 never mind looking around and finding it much cheaper off ebay

some people are beyond help im afraid

And the other side of the coin is that the buyer gets charged more, and have no choice.
If you see a seller charging well over the top for postage you have the choice not to buy. This way you have no choice.

For example, something i sell on thare at the moment I sell for £2.49 + £1.49 postage, with additional items costing an extra 50p each for postage. If someone buys 3, they pay £9.96.
If the section I use changes to free postage, they will have to be listed at £3.99, therefore if someone buys 3 they will pay £11.97. The buyer loses out.
its all not about fee avoidance as the main culprits are from the far east and they are still not affected by the changes made in the uk....still overcharging for postage

its another test..........soon enough it will be rolled out to other categories and eventually all items will be made free postage......mark my words same as paypal being enforced....shareholders want returns

they aint bothered for private sellers anymore they wanna be like amazon with shops and big sellers taking over.....all who get decent discounts on fees btw

as for dropshipping yeah fair enough using initiative but its kind of deceptive when package with an invoice addressed to someone else pops through your door from hmv/play etc and then you start getting junk mail and that because of it
Like they don't make enough from the fee's, I was going to list loads of dvd's & HD's but didn't bother after I was told I couldn't charge postage, after postage & fee's you'd probably be down??
Yes , you probably would, you need to factor fees and listing costs into the price you start at.
It is true Ebay have lost sight of how they started, it's not how it once was, they are a wannabe Amazon clone. Large sellers are king.
The flop that was Ebay express, did not teach them anything.

I think there's more businesses on there now than personal sellers, some of the things they do just don't make sense, this must be costing them money.
That is the one downside, although you can get around that. When listing an item that may be bought in mutiple purchases. Add a discout tally, for repeat buys and invoice the buyer before payment.
Most mutiple buyers will email and ask too.

Agreed, but then they buyer still won't get as cheap as the listing fees and fvf will be higher as they will be charged on the postage too, and if you are a big seller then you won't have time.

At the moment i'm just listing odd bits of makeup, stuff thats gone slow in the shop or are the wrong colour for where i live, so at the moment I would have no problem doing that. However at times (Christmas usually) I can have a couple of hundred listings, all with 20 items available. I'm out at work 8.30am-8.30pm 7 days a week, and then I just wouldn't have the time to do that. I'm sure other sellers are the same.

The other problem thats not been mentioned is the fact when you offer free postage you invariably get marked down on the dsr's for P&P. Don't know if its because buyers think they aren't getting any discount for buying more than one, or if they think it was free so shouldn't give a rating but you just have to look at the ebay boards for evidence of this.

Good Idea, i second Googlebay
Ebay are dumb

It's good to stop item 1p and £30 delivery but they have taken it too far and their profits will drop as sellers leave them to the rats
