if you get a USB about 2-4gb you can put win 98 on there and run it:|.

Dont know if that helps or not

what I meant was my friend has a computer with windows 98 on it (not second edition) and his digital camera takes compact flash cards. We are trying to find a memory card reader that will work on windows 98 / compact flash cards. Cheap as poss or can you only do this on post windows 98 SE computers due to usb issues?
Thanks

Only Windows 98 SE has USB support - that was one of the enhancements added to that release. So he needs to update his system and then buy a card reader that comes with USB drivers for Windows 98SE

Does your friends machine support "Firewire" also known as IEE1394; some readers come in this interface but are much more expensive.

Actually USB support was added in 95 OSR2 but it was dodgy at best, it doesn't even really work in 98 SE properly.

Sorry 4 not responding; i didn't realise this thread had been answered. I don't seem to get notifications any more.
No his computer doesn't support firewire.
Is there an update he can download so the win98Se drivers would work on his machine? Is it a free upgrade to 98SE?
#8
No it isn't and 98 isn't a support MS OS anymore, he needs a new operating system to be honest with you.

They could download a live linux CD (ubuntu etc) which should have the usb support they needed.

you can get an ide to cf reader. you would have to open the pc up to use it tho.
