Hi,

I'm thinking of getting the Mr a camcorder for his Birthday, but I have no idea where to start!

All I know is that I have about £150 to spend and that it should probably be HD...? As for the rest, Ive no clue! Im not too bothered about the size of it, but I'm sure theres a whole heap of things a guy would look for in this kind of thing!??

I thought about the Sanyo Xacti CG20 (found it for £110)? Not sure how it compares to others though.

Any help would be fab, thanks :)

You can't go wrong with a small hand held kodak playsport, they are only around £80 on amazon now and the quality is brilliant, films in 720p HD at 60 fps of full 1080p hd

Really depends on what you want to use it for, but I've stopped using my other hand held camcorder and use the playsport all the time

Thanks for the reply :)

It'll probably only be used for basic stuff like filming our son opening his pressies on Christmas Day, outings etc, things like that.. Just for memories really (prob should have pointed this out in my OP). Mr's father is in a home too, so I was thinking when he goes to visit him he could just plug it in his TV and show him what we've been up to and cheer him up a little.

Thanks again, I will look at the Kodac one you mentioned :)

Amazon have the Flip Mino High Definition Camcorder - 2nd Gen coming up at some point in the Black Friday sales if you can snag one for £50 :)

Thanks :)

Ive had a look at some videos and reviews etc for the Playsport and it seems like more of a camcorder for the sporty type (funny that!).. hes not going to be snowboarding, skiing or cycling anytime soon, so thats probably not for him!

The Xacti seems to be pants where low lighting is concerned..

I dunno, doing my brain in this is! I know whatever I pick will probably be wrong in some way, considering he's become the most fussiest man I know! :-/

Don't let the fact it called a playsport and waterproof let you think it's for the sporty type

Although I've used mine montsin biking the main use I've had for it was to film my two year old.

We brought it on holiday this year and it was great for in the pool, with it being waterproof.

For the price of it it can't be beaten imo but yeah it doesn't have an optical zoom, but that's never really bothered me for what I use it for

Takes great still photos too at 5mp

I could sell you a Sony sr35 for 100 if you like. Only problem is it's unboxed and I know you want one for a gift.
I listed it on here before and haven't used it in over a year. It's been in storage. A waste really. Haha

Kodak Playsport seems a great little camcorder and cannot underestimate the usefulness of a waterproof camera for relaxing videoing around water etc. Only possible downside with this camera is that the small lens will make low light videoing not so good.

btw Sanyo looks a great little camera for £110
