We owe £89.28 We're doing it by how many weeks we've been there

Person 1: 8 weeks
person 2: 7 weeks
Person 3: 5.5 weeks
Person 4: 5 weeks

Can anyone help out who each owes so it adds up to the right amount or a bit over. Bill can be rounded to £90 if it'll help

You cant just divide by weeks because 1 person is going to use less than if all 4 of you are there.

This seems fair

I make it:
8 weeks = £28
7 weeks = £24.50
5.5 weeks = £19.25
5 weeks = £17.50

TOTAL = £89.25
#7
person 1 28
person 2 24.50
person 3 19.25
person 4 17.5
#8
lol
#9
snap
#10
divide total amount owed by the total number of weeks
then multiply each person by the number of weeks

89.26 / 25.5 = 3.50 per week
person 1 3.50 x 8 =£28.00
person2 3.50 x 7 = £24.50
person 3 3.50 x 5.5 = £19.25
person 4 3.50 x 5 = £17.50

You have more difference between 3&4 than 1&2, how did you work that out?

I added all of the time together which is 25.5 weeks
89.28/25.5 = £3.50 then multiply by each persons time in weeks :)
#12
works out 3.50 per week times that by how many weeks your there
#13

Oh, ok :D
#14
my first one was a draft lol then i did what you did lol
#15
divide total bill by collective total of weeks then multiply this answer by each persons number of weeks due.

Ie 89.28 / (8+7+5.5+5) = £3.5011764 per week

So
person 1 8 x 3.50 = 28
person 2 7 x 3.50 = 24.51
person 3 5.5 x 3.50 = 19.26
person 4 5 x 3.50 = 17.51

= 89.28

Would you like an eating out 10% off zavvi, 20% off gifts and clothing, or the same for the hut?
#17
Yeah you cannot really divide it by how many weeks people have been there.

All your names are on the tennancy so you're under contract to split it equally.

Remember next time, spend all your time there!
#18
Sooooooo, what do I win? :D
#19
which ones the best lol
#20
Yeah, one light, tv oven etc could provide for 7 people for the same price as 1

Just split it 4 ways :)
#21
I say Mrs Z wins..
#22

This is a tough one, I would say as already said as a one off do as the calculations above.

Reason I say this is I have lived in student properties where a single person moving in can make the bill skyrocket so its unfair to make others pay for that. i.e in a property last year I was spending about £4 a week in bills, then someone moved in and wanted heating on about 15 hours a day and not just at cool temps but so the house was boiling hot so my share alone doubled.

I would also try and get everyones name on the contracts incase one person refuses to pay their share.

I know its hard but we didnt have to move in so early, 2 people moved in 1 week shy of a month before we needed to which made the bills more. I like to think this way it's a little fairer. I know this isnt much to some people but in my case I havent got a grant off the government and just on the base loan.

Need to save as much as possible.

Thanks to everyone for their help, if anyone wants any vouchers just PM me :)

56 days max.
= £1.60 a day.
If you want to be really precise divide £1.60 by however many were there on the day.
4 people 40p
3 people approx 53p
2 people 80p
1 person £1.60

Don't worry. Its a stage of life, dividing things up to the penny. Something you will look back on X)

Yeah, I have been in same situation as I said, didnt think it was fair that I was worried about bills so didnt turn on heating and went to uni for hours with my laptop and someone moving in having hour long showers and heating on 15 hours a day and me paying for it!
#39
Although renting privately is a pain its been a learning curve, i didnt realise how much different it would be to on campus, like last year. I've had to chase up British gas to actually bill me, the water isnt even set up in our name.

Uni has been worth it to me just to learn how to become more independent. I actually put bins out! My brother at 22 (at home) doesnt!

Only downside is the cost... but if i get a job at the end of it :) it's only a small sum a week

id like to know what you all do at uni? i take it not maths... sounds like ur doing allright in ur pad though at least ur flatmates arnt sayign there not paying yet
