Can you unlock a Nokia 5800?

OK, my daughters Nokia 5800 developed a fault, so I sent it back to Marshall Ward for repair. Only they didn't even bother repairing it, just sent it back and credited my account GRRRRRRR I got it really cheap from one of the offers on here. I'm fuming to say the least. Anyways, I have argued a replacement out of them, but it will be locked to T-Mobile, but I need it for o2, can they be unlocked?

google is confusing me! lol

They can be, but it's a phone shop job. Should cost between 10 and 20 quid.

Or T could unlock it, I think they charge 20 quid. . .

I'd be weary as i wanted to get my 5800 unlocked around christmas time and took it to several phone shops but they couldn't do it yet as it was some different version, can't remember the reason. Since virgin uses T-mobile network, might be the same? This was a few months ago so might of changed now.

Go to any market stall that offers phones and they will do it, never had any phone not unlockable yet

Well if you bought an o2 one then they should replace it with an o2 one?

That thread would imply its not that easy then?

Yup it doesn't look like an easy unlock, it's probably worth taking to somewhere on the high street/market though

The thing is, I don't want to open the phone and then be told it can't be unlocked, I'm stuck with it then.

Can you definitely get an unlock from T mobile? I don't mind paying a bit extra if it's guaranteed to work.

I can't find anything on the T Mob site

What do you mean opening the phone? Send over it i will do it FOC just enclose return postage if its a SL3 i will simply return it or can get it done for you but that will be at cost

I got my 5800 unlocked - it was originally on TMobile and I am now using it on O2

It is a tricky unlock but shouldn't cost more than £10 - I would only take it to a phone shop (not a market stall) :)

hiya, lovely of you to offer, but you must agree, I'd have to be slightly mad to send a brand new £150 phone to a total stranger from the internet? lol. many thanks though :)

what is SL3?

*#0000# on the phone

This will show the software version of the phone.

If your phone version is not a double figure before the decimal point ie. 6.51 then i CAN unlock it

OK, i checked the version and it is double figure before the .

Does that mean it's unlockable?

Gutted :(

Would TMobile unlock it for me?

On a side note, do you know anything about unlocking a Samsung Genio Slide? Would I have the same problems? it's locked to Vodafone, thinking of just swapping this Nokia for the Samsung one.
