** Cancel Your Orange Contract Early **

Orange are allowing contract holders to terminate early due to their recent changes in costs for voicemail/web browsing etc.

My partner received the following text a few days ago, she called Orange and was allowed to terminate her contract straight away (giving 4 weeks notice):

From Orange. From 14 Sep We're changing the cost of mobile internet browsing & come calls not included in your plan.

Full discussion over at MoneySavingExpert.com:

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1825687

It sounds like people are getting mixed messages when they call Orange, there is a good post on the above forum about the T&C posted on Oranges website though:

4.3 You may also terminate your Contract if we vary its terms, resulting in an excessive increase in the Charges or changes that alter your rights under this Contract to your detriment. In such cases you would need to give us at least 14 days written notice prior to your Billing Date (and within one month of us telling you about the changes). However this option does not apply if:

4.3.1 we have increased the Charges by an amount equal to or less than the percentage increase in the All Items Index of Retail Prices published by the Central Statistical Office in the Monthly Digest of Statistics in any 12 month period;"

Just cancelled one of my contracts!

But the guy says I can't get a PAC code! Surely this can't be right????

He also said I have to return my phone? I reported it stolen anyway but that can't be right either can it?

Found this on MSE in thread about the Orange contract changes

14.1 Your Device and Accessories are acquired by you outside the terms of your Contract. "

Once again, just tell them to read the contract. Big companies seem to be great and pointing out their T&Cs to customers but don't like it when customers do the same back

Worth looking on there, seems a lot of people just call back and get a different CSR and get offered different options.

Hope you didnt mind me posting this Toni

ok lol , well when u go in and look for ur contract they show u which fone u could get FREE with ur contract , as its ur contract that u are actually paying for not the phone, so they have no reason to actually ask for the phoneback but as i says b4 they could block the phone so that it cannot be used after u cancel ur contract , see if have the blackberry and love the phone and wouldnt give them it back , but if i cancel my contract im worries that they will block the fone so i cannot put a payg sim in it

When I took out my second contract I paid 97.50 for the phone, if they insist on taking the phone back I'll ask them to refund the money first and then I'll return the phone with a smashed screen!

No but seriously do I have to return the phone?
#49
Ok, called them up again and they sending me my pac.

On my second line they asked if I recieved the text, is it ok if I lie to them?
#50
Ok, for my second contract they are asking me to write in as per 4.3 of the terms and conditions!
#51
i didnt get a text but that shouldnt matter anyway. i would love to cancel my contract, i got a free ps3 with mine!

Make sure you take a photocopy of the letter before you send it and send the letter by recorded first class delivery as then you have the upper hand when it comes to a dispute

omg rev thank-you so much i think i am in love with u lol,i have been trying to get out my awful contract for ages, they are seriously the worst company in the world. my phone gets cut off 2moz woo never thought i would be happy about that lol

Just cancelled my sisters for her.
Very reluctant at first, ignoring everything I said and was trying to give me the next bundle for free.
I just stuck to chapter 4.3.

They then said fine - but demanded the phone be returned (Which we dont have anymore)

We said fine let the call finish then called straight back.

Quoted section 14 of THEIR contract:
"14 Devices

your Device is not a part of your Contract

14.1 Your Device and Accessories are acquired by you outside the terms of your Contract. "

Just keep quoting their own terms and conditions against them and they don't have a leg to stand on.

Bare in mind, they'll be extremely releuctant if you do not go over your minutes( my sister does every month) or you don't use the internet (my sister does every now and again)

It'd be silly if you bought the iPhone for them to say you cant cancel :p
#69
Got the txt about im about 6 months into a 18 month contract will try this probally wont work for me though
#70
Thanks for the tip. Not received the text yet but will be calling Orange tomorrow to cancel the contract. I have been trying to get out of this for months now.
#71
I love you the person who started this thread.

I rung up and got a horrible man who said because I didn't personally get the text I couldn't cancel because my prices weren't changing.

I then rung back and got a lovely man from Newcastle I think called Lee who just said ok, I'll cancel that now for you, just like that!! I was in a 2 year contract that started in February this year, and I got a free iPod touch with it! Get to keep phone and iPod, amazing!!

I wouldn't be as stupid as to do that. I'm just going to go into an O2 shop and harass the staff. They'll like it.
#73
phoned them there, the only way they will do it (for me anyway) is if i go over my minutes

so what u think im gonna do about that, ill just phone my house phone and leave it on until i go over the minutes, then i will have a case the guy says. result

Just keep ringing back until you get someone else. That's what I did, I was second time lucky.
#75
I just phoned again to cancel and they said they'll ring me back in a few day just to clarify a few things regarding the change? WTF?

Unless you go over on the minutes (regularly) or use the internet alot you will not pass the criteria to cancel early as the changes wont affect you. so no point in trying.
#78
I also didn't recieve the text, nor did I mention ANYTHING about a text.
#79
If you get out of the contract, won't you have to sign up for another one with someone else. What is the benefit - apologies for being thick !!!

Well if you don't like your provider (Orange) You can go somewhere else.

OR if you want a different phone IE. one that Orange doesnt sell but you still have 5 months or whatever left..
