Cancel your Virgin Media contract without penalty

JattJatt

Just received a letter from virgin media saying that they are increasing price of my bundle by £3.50 and on the other side of letter it says, if I don't agree with this, I can cancel my contract penalty free

So, If you are in contract with any virgin media service bundle, you can call them to cancel your contract as they are increasing their prices for bundles.

Will be a good opportunity to get more for your money by threatening to cancel or if you want to move to another provider and can't do it now.

What services, and at what level, are they increasing the price of? I ask as I've heard nothing but am on the smallest phone and broadband package they do.

And the bit about cancelling for free is right down the bottom in tiny text

I received no letter or email notification, but noticed they took an increased payment on my broadband this month.

Since they are doubling the broadband speeds i can forgive them this time especially since ADSL2 will only give me a stable 2-3Mb. Also everyone else is increasing their prices as well so not much to be gained by moving anyway.

its not about moving, its about re negotiating your contract to get some thing extra, tivo, retention deal etc

I called their support and was told that i cannot cancel the contract as the increase is less than 10% of the total package value. They can increase the price by upto 10% per annum. It is mentioned somewhere in the !#%^#% contract which i signed :(

If Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Payments:
    a. increase their respective charges under these agreements;
    b. make significant changes to the services so the services you are entitled to receive in return for the charges you pay are significantly altered or reduced; or
    c. make significant changes to the terms and conditions of these agreements (including the other legal stuff),

you may cancel those services affected without penalty by giving Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Payments (as applicable) at least 30 days' notice. Such notice must be given within 30 days of the increase in charges or changes to the services or this agreement being notified to you. If you were not notified of these changes in advance, you must give notice of cancellation of the services affected to Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Payments (as applicable) within 30 days of receipt of your first bill following such increase in charges. If you do not give notice of cancellation within the specified period, you will be deemed to have accepted the increase in charges and/or the changes to the services and these agreements. You will no longer be able to cancel your services under this paragraph. If you cancel any services in these circumstances, the increased charges will not apply to those services during the 30-day notice period and paragraph J2 will not apply if you cancel before the end of the minimum period.

Doesn't mention anything about 10% there.

so they are only increasing call charges?

cant see any reason why anyone would use their virgin line for phone calls if being charged. I use ASDA PAYG mobile. 6p per minute and no connection fee.

Virgin charge 15p connection fee and 10p per minute!

All the letter said that they sent me is that they are increasing my bundle charge by £2.00 a month.

Did not mention a specific service, which I believe will give me the right to end the agreement for all of my services. I'm going to call them tomorrow.

I was going to disconnect anyway because I'm moving out - so it's saving me 3 months payments.

Just successfully cancelled my agreement without penalty. Easy and well executed process which makes me think they're getting used to these requests now.

They originally offered to waive the increase and reduce my package by £1!

    150 from a VM landline

I got my price increase letter yesterday.
It gives you ways to reduce my monthly bill, but they are not relevant, as I already have e-billing, and pay by direct debit.

I only have broadband at a price of £21, which is going up by £1.50

I have just called them on 0845 454 1111, and asked how I can save money on my bill. They admitted I can't, but said that in compensation, they are doubling the broadband speeds this year.
I told them that the doubling of broadband speeds is being advertised as free, and it is double talk to then say the price increase is for this purpose. I then asked to be put through to cancellations.

Without hesitation, I was offered what I have now for £15 per month rising to £16.50 in April, but locked in for 12 months.

I was toying with moving over to Sky broadband, but this would need me to have a phone line, at a total cost of £29.25 per month + a set up cost of £40.

Virgin offered me broadband + phone line for £21.40 per month, and waived the installation costs.
This is still subject to the £1.50 rise, but the nett result is £1.90 more on my current bill with a landline.

    Isn't ASDA 10p per minute?

No offence but what mug pays this much a month for this stuff?

We pay £20odd a month for 50MBit internet + XL telephone package + Free 0845 and 08something numbers(0870 maybe?) + £30 for Sky with all packages + HD...
