Cancelling Sky TV, keeping phone line & broadband

Hi,

I am not sure... need some advice!

Basically, I subscribed to Sky Jun 2009. I've had Sky TV + Sky Phone Line (not BT) + Sky broadband. My 12 months contract is running out..

Just wonder, will they allow me to cancel my Sky TV and keep the phone line and broadband only?

I am aware if anyone wants broadband they have to sign for the phone line. What about the Sky TV? Can I have the phone line and internet without the TV.

Nope, you have to receive Sky tv to get phone and broadband through them. This is taken from their T&C's:

Can I receive Sky Talk?

To receive Sky Talk, you must have an active Sky digital subscription ("Sky TV") under a Sky TV subscription contract and a BT compatible phone line. If your Sky TV Contract ends or is suspended, Sky Talk may be automatically ended/suspended too (see Condition 7.3).

Do you have a O2 PAYG/PAYM mobile per chance?

Hi, I did just that last month, seemed to be fine about it. Just said I can only afford bb and phone for the next year. Worked for me. Now, switching from sky phone and bb on a sky line, that's a bit tougher.

Try the utilitywarehouse. I just switched with them as was highly recommended by my uncle for value and customer service. Saw his utility/phone/broadband bill and was impressed with the saving.

Hope this help. I am waiting for my first bill to arrive in 3 weeks time

That could be for new customers taking a 12 months contract. It doesn't especifiy. If it is right, Sky is the only one losing because if I am not allowed to have Sky phone and broadband on their own, I will cancel/switch ALL the services.

Yes.. I just done the Check availability

At the moment, we can't offer Sky broadband or home phone on your line. We will in the future. Please register your interest

I will try it. Did you have to sign for another 12 months?

No I just cancelled the TV and the BB and phone carried on as before. No additional contract.

The Sky Talk / Broadband services I have are provided by Sky's own new network (rather than BT’s). It is known as Sky Voice and Broadband Network.

Are your BB and phone line from Sky?

Yep. So much so that I had a pain cancelling that and switching back to BT. Sky said they owned the line and a second line would be needed to use another provider. But BT said no, they can retake ownership of the line for nothing. So they did.

I believe now they dont insist on you having a BT compatible line before having sky installed if you just want the TV options
