Capital punishment

Should capital punishment be brought back?
This would help to solve the prison overcrowding crisis and help to save the government money.
It would also get rid of convicted murderers, rapists and pedo's.
I'm sure lots of people would vote in favour of it.

No it doesn't save money...the trial process for someone facing execution costs millions and takes years to reach a decision...It's cheaper to let them rot in prison.

No it shouldn't be brought back.

Would rather see Catchphrase.

No, death is an easy way out for these people, much rather they spent all of their lives in solitary room.
#13
They kill someone, so you kill them?

To many miscarriages of justice take place....once you have killed an innocent person it to late for them to be acquitted at a later date.

Never happen.. too many bleeding liberals that give the victims less rights than the people who carry out the crime...
#16
it should never be reintroduced

Grow up.

What is needed is a real life sentence .Minimum term should be 55 years for premeditated murder,
#20
No. If you put to death an innocent man, there's no going back but if you find a man in prison to be innocent, he can be released (well, that's the idea anyway).

I do agree that indefinite life sentences should be imposed more often though. No point in calling a 25 year sentence a "life sentence".

Well let's hope that the people who voted yes get wrongly convicted of a crime - then they'll have either a quick death or lots of year to regret their decision :)
#22
And lets hope that the people who vote no are the ones who get murdered by convicted killers after their release,

Miscarriage of justice are rare now due to advances in forensic science. Certain cases are just so tight ie the wests in these then the death penalty is a must, but no doubt the ones saying no were not the victims of these hideous people. Luckily one of them took the cowards way out whilst the other sits in luxury at our expense.

Yes. I believe the advancement in forensic science, technology and police procedures and training mean that there's a lot less chance of convicting the wrong person.

Kill them, but I'm against it being quick and painless.
#26
Mentally ill people who commit crimes cant always be forgiven I know but I would rather have someone mentally ill locked up than face the prospect of an innocent person being put to death mistakenly.

So killing an innocent person would be rare. Good to know.

Would you like to see Harold Shipman put to death?

Yeah, because those saying no (like me) would like nothing better than taking these criminals out for a free lunch, followed by a movie and maybe a stay over in a swanky hotel.

For some reason, the instant response from the pig thick is to suggest those not wanting to kill criminals must want to impregnate/get impregnated by them.

Ooooo, I love people who kill! oO

we have so many of the above mentioned people because we live in a country that appears to think that we should treat them like ordinary people. Lets see the peole who say NO experience their loved ones being raped/murdered/sexually abused...im sure they would change their mind. Of course we have so many saying NO as crimes of this type and relatively low thus fewer victims thus lets treat the few we do have with kid gloves. If we think we can cure a pervert who rapes a 6 month old baby then those that say we can are sicker that the pervert.....God bless the UK!!

And how do you feel about the 29 people who have been killed in the past ten years by convicted murdrers after their release.

Mentally ill people who commit crimes cant always be forgiven I know but I would rather have someone mentally ill locked up than face the prospect of an innocent person being put to death mistakenly.

In cases like this it is usually quite a widespread failure that has led to them commiting such crimes a second time. There has usually been a failure in the monitoring process either before and/or after release. Obviously in instances such as this procedures need to be re-examined and tightened.
#36
I never said they should have an easy life of it etc.. just that if people are convicted wrongly (innocent of the crimes) then the people that put them to death are no better than murderers themselves. So let's say that you wrongly put someone to death, would you then volunteer to have the death penalty yourself? or would you shrug your shoulders and go "oh well, I thought they had done it... oops!!"?

I think harsher prisons are called for instead, no more TV/gyms/free studying etc while the rest of us have to pay for things we want... no need for death penalties to be introduced, make them work while they are in prison instead of lounging about.

I agree, my first instinct is actually yes, but when I engage my brain then the above statement makes more sense, plus there is the fact that it sort of acts as a detterent, if someone knows they will get the death sentence they are more likely to kill their victim, rather than let them go, because there is more chance of getting caught by leaving the victim alive.

I am not a soft touch i hate those who think they can do as they please and hurt others, i also get frustrated at the system which does not deter criminals and favors them above the victim.
