Capping Blackberry Data Usage

I'm due for contract renewal very soon on my mobile. I'm planning on sticking with Blackberry but Im curious as to the Blackberry Data Packages. I read on a bitterwallet post a month or so ago that O2 can't cap your blackberry data usage as they can't decrypt the Blackberry Data and therefore you would actually have unlimited (Link in first post).

Does anyone know if this is actually true? If it is then does anyone know if this is the same for other network providers?

All data going through the Blackberry Rim server gets compressed and encrypt.

The compressed is very good. When I was testing one for usage I had troubles even getting it to show on the network. You'd have to go some to blow your allows of 500 mb a month.

The network can monitor how much you're using, it just can't see what it is. It's the same for all networks.

I'm on O2 using my Blackberry and have been nowhere near using my allowance and I use it every single day for hours at a time. O2 originally said they would text me if I was nearing my monthly limit but they haven't yet and haven't charged me extra. I'm still on the BB Simplicity of 300 mins, unlimited texts and 500mb for only £10 a month (special offer ages ago) and won't be changing anytime soon at that price as never seen it cheaper than that.

That is a good price! If I could get something like that I wouldn't bother with the upgrade!

I know it was a deal on here months ago. Actually bought a new BB elsewhere just to I could pay this (forever!) Wish they'd do it again as want to get daughter something like that. Why not give O2 a call and see if they can do the Simplicity deal? Usually when you threaten to leave and ask for PAC code etc by the time you get to the Cancellation Dept a lot of the time they can give you what you're looking for. Worth a try.

Thing is I've currently got the 8520 and I want the Bold 9700, although I also quite fancy the new Torch thats coming out. I'll have a look about to see if I can get a sim free phone and see if it would be worthwhile.

I've got the Bold 9700. I did try to get a free one from 02 saying I'd got a better deal elsewhere but they wouldn't give me for less than £25 a month. Worked out cheaper buying it (thanks to my OH) and going for the Simplicity deal. Give them a try as the Bold was just out when I wanted it - may be easier to get them to bring the monthy price down a bit?
