I would seriously go for a Yaris. I bought a new one ...dead cheap insurance and I get 56 mpg. Think you could get a good deal on a second hand one now after all the recent Toyota problems

group 1 cars will be something like a cittroen c1, or renault clio or small endgined corsa

you need something around or below 1.1 litre to keep your insurance down as much as possible

and as the poster above says, it will probably still be 1k for insurance as well

punto corsa are the cheapest my son opted for an old corsa till he turned 25

OP do you have another £1k set aside for the insurance?

Hi yes i had a look at a yaris and its insurance but under my dads name

We both roughly came in at £550 which isnt too bad at all

peugeot 106 is a good option for cheap insurance

I just did it online. It would ideally be my car, but my dad will prob drive it half the time too lol.

Is it wrong for me not to be the main driver? I was advised to do it on my dads name as it should make insurance cheaper lol

I take it you told insurance company you'll be the main driver :whistling:

you sound like a tool....

they do investigate thoroughly, they would check to see where he works and if he has another car and various other things to work out who is the main driver if a claim arises.

not worth it these days

Ah ok thanks for that

i am 28 and just passed last week. the cheapest insurance, well the best deal for me is with admiral, fully comp including breakdown cover and loan car and i pay £140 for ten months. i was going to add myself as a named driver on my mums policy but it is pointless. first off, my car is registered to me so i couldn't put her as named driver, and if i insure myself on her car then i am not getting any no claims bonus, so i will just have to put up with high premiums for the next 10 months, but then hopefully the price will go down and i will have 1 years ncb. Insurance companies are definitely on the ball now. a friend of mine passed her test a couple of months back and she insured her car with her dad as main driver. when she needed to make a claim because someone ran into the back of her, they void her policy and made her pay for repairs to the other vehicle because they found out her dad had another car, therefore he obviuosly wasn't the main driver of hers.

yeah £140 per month for 10 months then when the 10 months is up i get 1 years ncb and my insurance will go down. the next cheapest i found was going to cost £132 per month for 12 months for 3rd party fire and theft cover only.

having you as a named driver is a bit dodgy to say the least but the cost of insurance for younger inexperienced drivers is very high guess the boy racers are too blame:whistling:

im sounding like a grumpy old man of 35 here:-D
it will cost you now but the only way too make insurance affordable is too build up your no claims bonus so might be best too put aside even more for the insurance and get a cheaper car as you will gain in the long run and you will be completely legal:)

Be careful with this, if its your car and your the main driver its illegal to insure in your dads name with you as a named driver. its called fronting.
