Car help!

Hi,
I'm looking to get a new car soon. And its between:

Citroen Saxo VTR (post 2000 model)
Ford Fiesta Zetec-S
Peugeot 106 Quiksilver

Getting similar insurance quotes for all of them (since the saxo and fiesta are both 1.6 engines)

Just wondered if anyone had had one of these cars and could comment on their reliability, performance, running costs etc.

Have checked whatcar.com, but would prefer an opinion from someone who has owned one of the cars for a while.

Cheers guys!

I have a had a zetec s and I now have a saxo vtr 2002 reg, I have to say the zetec s had a much nicer interior and air conditioning but didnt drive as nice as the vtr, my zetec s got an overheating problem which is fairly common and cost £800+ to fix which made me hate it, great car but I prefer my vtr, sticks to the road like glue and hasnt had a thing go wrong with it, its done 54000 miles and drives like new, just make sure you get a standard one of either cars not some thrashed boy racer piece of ****! zetec s and vtr are basically as quick as each other the zetec s is 16v but the weight from air con etc.. slows it down!

the vtr is well cheap to run if driven right, gun it and it will get through petrol pretty quick though! i see you said you want a 2000 model onwards, good choice as it does not just look much nicer it has 10bhp more power and about 5 mile a gallon better petrol consumption! lovely car, nice & quick and very reliable, my mate had one that had done 120000!!! and it had no major problems just general wear & tear!

i wouldnt want a quicksilver pretty sluggish, 106 gti is more like it but thats the same insurance as a saxo vts, same cars basically insurance group 14 i think , they are 16v and do 0-60 in about a 1.5 sceonds quicker than the vtr & zetec s!

Good choices mate! good luck finding a good one I had to travel 200+ miles lol!
all the best jake

Have had both a VTR and a Zetec-S

Id say the VTR was probably marginally quicker, but for some reason I liked the Zetec-S better

Never had any problems with either, but didnt really own them long enough to find out. The saxo i had for 8 months, Fiesta for 9!

The Ford has a better interior i think and is slightly higher spec.

The 106 is a great looking little car - GTi looks without the performance though and a bit toothless

Cheers guys!

Been looking at a 106 gti but it's so hard to find one that wasn't thrashed or had a really high mileage!

Think i'll go for a saxo!

Thanks so much for the help

yeah and the zetec is a ford , the time of french cars being disregarded is long gone! the zetec is a lovely car but I had loads of trouble with mine, the vtr has been perfect!

ask top gear, hot hatch = cool
small french hatchback = cool

you do the maths, small french hot hatch = very damn cool lol:thumbsup:

You might want to look at the Saxo in the ncap test lol, it just shrivels up.

Yeah i did hear it's pretty bad!
Will check it out.

Pretty much ruled out the 106 tho.

Heard the zetecs with the 'black top' engines are more reliable

No thanks mate, had a rover 25 , glad to see the back of it! Would never get a rover again

If i had a choice of those 3, it would be the ford.

Would never touch a saxo, and the 106 is just too small.

A very well informed comment ,

Why would you pick ford, why would you not touch a saxo? really helpful to the op im sure!

a saxo and a 106 are exactly the same shell just different bumpers, bonnet etc... so they are exactly the same size so surely a saxo is too small too! dont comment on things you odviously dont have a clue about!

Cars never really gonna have more than 2 people in it so size isn't too much of an option.

Why not a saxo?
