Hey,

I'm off to Barcelona. 26th Oct to 29th. I want to have a hire car, hiring it from 18.30 26th to 13.30 on the 29th. I'm 22, so surcharges need to factored into it. I need a car such as a Corsa or a Clio, nothing as small as a KA. I also need it to be a policy where the car is returned back full, not empty, as there won't be a high amount of mileage used on it and I won't use a tank of full.

Anyone up for a challenge of finding the best deal they can, cos I'm getting headaches trying to factor in everything. I'd also use Quidco for cashback where possible.

I think I'm around £70 for the hire at the moment.

Try expedia, there is also quidco on it of 7.6%. I just checked for girona airport and for one day it was only £17.66

It's a good start. However, when you select Corsa in the options your actually only given the Ford KA to book. I emailed them yesterday to complain about this. The major problem is however:

"The Minimum rental age is 25 years"

Rep left for the effort

Hadn't looked at Expedia, so thanks for the suggestion.

However, on the home page one of the first comment is "all drivers must ... be 25 years or older".

Incidentally, it's Barcelona (BCN) Airport we're travelling to.

we've used carjet.com for the last 4 years.

Just done a quick search for a 22 yr old for your dates & a Clio is £56.84 - not sure about the fuel full though.

Just noticed a 13.90 EUR premium location fee as well though

Do you really need a car? The trains/Metro are reliable, and cheap.

That's not a bad price! Not seen that site before so some rep left for that. I'll add that to my shortlist. There is 2 extras though. Firstly, there is a premium location fee of 13.90 Euro per day to pay and it specifies I am to return the car empty of fuel.

I'm all for transport and not a car. I'm struggling to get it all organised though. We need transfers from Barcelona to Lloret de Mar, and we'll also go back into Barcelona for a day which I know is €18 so all these extras are going to add up. All up for suggestions on transfers though instead of a hire car.

Darn.. Sorry the train doesn't go as far as Lloret de Mar.
I'm going the week before you, but to Santa Susana, which is on the train route. ..(Just before Blanes)
The airport to santa Susana is just €3.20 single.

I think buses/coach would take you to LDM.. not sure off-hand though.

Hmm. Just looked, they seem to go to Blanes, not LDM.. maybe a connection there.

usually carjet will let you do full/full for less than 5 days, ring them they are based in harlow.

I've found transfers, return for both of us, for circa £45. On top of that would be trains into Barcelona one day which is €18 each. Also the inconvience of it all. Just thought car might end up being cheaper and easier.

£72 with Auto-Europe is my cheapest btw. £48, with approx €11 per day young surcharge on top and Quidco cashback.

Agreed.. It is a hassle with changes on public transport...

€18 sounds excessive to Barcs,, It's only €4.10 from the airport to Blanes, which isn't too far from Lloret DM.

Have you been to Barcelona before? Great place!

I read €18 on a review site. Maybe that was for 2 of them return? Need to do further research on that then. Never been before, really really looking forward to it :)

Lots of walking to do there, so maybe if you do get a car it could be easier to park near a station and take the train into town. The metro is good to get around.. You can buy a T10 ticket that gives you 10 journeys, for €7.20. in the city centre zone 1.
Study the train site.. http://www.renfe.es/cercanias/barcelona/index.html

No real suggestions unfortunately but any chance of picking me up from the airport on 28 Oct 08 and dropping me off at the Barcelona Travelodge?

I am a year or 2 over 25 (maybe some extra years too!!) so I could drive and actually use the car for the whole of my stay to save you some money.

JOKE!!!

have a great time and I WILL be in Barcelona until 1 Nov 08. Just got to find hotel for rest of stay now.

Think I might try and find some Airport Transfers. Although - carjet.com were great and told me I could bring the car back half full as it's a 3 day hire.

Decisions, decisions!!!

I've just been through Quidco and picked up all the transfer companies and done quotes.

Shuttle: Resorthoppa £43.09 with Quidco
Taxi: Transferstore £59.86 with Quidco.

IMPORTANT

When booking any car hire, read the small print as Collision Damage Waiver isnt quite what it seems. I used to think it meant you didnt have to pay if you had an accident. This isnt true. You just dont have to pay anything above the excess. Easycar are the worst as in the excess is about £500!

Look for car hire that includes CDW & Excess Damage Waiver (EDW). Not many have both.

EDIT:-

Just checked Easycar for a week in Cyprus and its even worse that I thought! :-

Damage Liability Waiver (DLW) Is included in the booking cost and reduces your financial liability up to a maximum of GBP €1425.00 (depending on vehicle group)
