Car Insurance...Again

Finally passed my test; and trying to get some descent quotes for my 1.8 TDDI Focus

So far Churchill is the cheapest at £1820 (I know!) PLUS 10% off for Pass Plus (Going by what the site says)

Tesco was cheapest when I was looking in the past; but now its £2049

Anyone know any good ones for an 18 Year Old lad with a part time job?

Also; if I rang them up can I haggle and get a better premium?

These quotes were Comprehensive and not third party

Get a smaller car!! My first car was a 1976 Austin Mini 1000, much more fun to drive and only cost £400 to insure!

If your stuck with the car then try some brokers, Im currently with Highway something or other. But went through a broker.

Good Luck!

Try the RAC,
They were reasonable for my son.

The comment on engine size is right though, go for a newer car with a smaller engine, it will be just as fast and not cost as much to run.
Good Luck

I'm surprised they even quoted you!!

. . .. . . try a Perodua Nipper  :w00t:

I have had quotes for cars with a smaller engine (306, 106, corsa, saxo etc) and have been the same OR more expensive! Crazy I know but true!

Anyone know of any insurers that give a big chunk of a discount for pass plus?

Congratulations!!! Try www.confused.com.

See if you can get a quote from Quinn direct, not sure if they do England.
They were half the price of anyone else for my 19y/o on Thursday.
Post office and Endsliegh were the next best.

Congratulations

Have done bud; £1950 WITH Pass Plus

Mad I tell thee

Isnt pass plus only worth 5-10% ???

I remember when I passed my test all them years ago it cost more to do the pass plus than the saving on the insurance!!

Could also be the "type" of car you are going for, My bro has a punto costs him £800 FC, I bought a saxo when i passed my test and the insurance was more costly because i bought a "special" edition (im still yet to learn what was so special about it!!) the spec makes the difference im afriad ;-)

Yeah not so much the engine but the model eg saxo, 106, focus . . . . . . all make me think of dodgy body kits, exhausts you could put your head in, and blue side lights :whistling:

you wouldnt have that trouble with a toyota yaris lol

its not mad at all, a 1.8 focus as your first car, you knew when you bought it, the insurance was not going to be low.

Look in the back of exchange and mart - there are specialist companies for young people
I had the same problem, went through a company called Express Insurance and got a pretty good deal last year (shame it wasnt so good when I was renewing)

You obviously don't have a son or husband. Women drivers get insurance a lot cheaper than men. Even though women have more smashes we cause more damage.

Try www.lv.com

That's Liverpool Victoria's website, they're normally quite cheap!
Have you ever had a moped/scooter? as some people accept the no claims off that insurance for a car insurance. That's what i had anyways, brought my premium down to £500. (At 17 just passed driving a Saxo LX i think)
#22
Be warned, my niece got quoted discounts with pass plus but the insurers wanted all of the premium up front and wouldn't let her pay monthly without a huge addition to the premium.

She's 17 and just insured with Direct Line, 1.2 Fiat Punto, FC £1000 (paid it for her and she pays me back, only way we could do it without them ripping her off)

Right; ended up going with Tesco (Used my sisters clubcard to get t down a little!) at £1870 fully comprehensive...The reason is when I rang up this morning the guy informed me that the current Pass Plus discount is 20%; so works out around £1500 which I am over the moon about :)

Thanks for everyones help
