Car insurance query

Me and my sister are both named drivers on my dads policy on his car. Unfortunately my dad has become ill and is no longer able to drive. My question is, is it ok for me and my sister to still drive on the policy as we use it to take him to hospital etc.

Any advice would be appreciated

as named drivers... yes

He will be listed as the main user, so you should really advise your Insurer of the changed circumstances. You are both still insured to drive as named drivers.
#3
I would also advise you to contact your insurance company as you are obliged to inform them of any changes.

Your Dad has to be the main driver, so you need to make some changes otherwise you will not be insured.

How far through the policy are you? If neither you or your sister are going to be able to match the mileage that your dad has already covered since this policy started then I would argue that he would still be the main driver.

Might be worth looking at the documents that came with the policy to see if there's any clarification there.

You should be ok as long as your dads illness isn't one that would make it illegal for him to hold a license.

You may be able to help me actually if someone has been driving for a few years and has racked up some NCB years, if they go on somebody's insurance for a year as a named driver and don't have policy of there own i that time what happens to their NCB?.

If the Dad is named as the main driver but not driving the car wouldn't this be fronting?

It would be classed as fronting, if he's not done more miles than the kids, however I don't think they'd have a problem until it is due to renew, as the policy was taken out legitimately. I'd still be ringing them though, and be prepared to cough up some more money for the amendments. Is Dad not going to be able to drive EVER again, or is this a temporary thing? If it's temporary I wouldn't even be ringing them. As for the NCD, you get a period of time, usually 2 or three years to hold it in suspense before it expires. Check with your insurer. However, it can be transferred (with most insurers) spouse to spouse once every 12 months. The NCD my husband accrued now belongs to me, since my car was stolen unrecovered, and he got a new company car. Seemed a shame to waste it!
