Maybe I have not looked good enough but I need to know if the car you intend scrapping needs to be running? My timing belts gone and after a big repair bill 4 months ago this has made me decide I need to give up now, will they accept it if I get it to them do you think? it is being scrapped after all.
It is taxed til end of this month so I need to move quick

As far as I know it only needs to be taxed and insured but not 100% certain
#2
are you intending trading it in for a new one?

as long as you get it to the garage you should be fine as its government backed.

just needs tax and insurance(i.e legal)

dont mention to them that its knackered unless they ask

It doesnt matter as long as you have the mot and tax, I have just scrapped mine and the salesman said they could pick the car up if need be.

gosh thats better than I could have hoped for (ex has a recovery buisness so thats not a problem really) I hope its not garage specific. How long did it all take from start to finish for you?

There is nothing to say it has to be running. A friend got his taken to the dealership by trailer and that was fine.

The rules (from Gov website)

The vehicle you trade in and the new vehicle you want to buy must meet certain conditions for you to be able to get the discount.

Your vehicle

The vehicle you are trading in must:

* be a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kilograms (kg)
* be registered in United Kingdom on or before 29 February 2000 (cars) or 28 February 2002 (vans) (vehicle categories M1 and N1 respectively)
* be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) or Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) in your name
* have been registered to you continuously for 12 calendar months before the order date of the new vehicle
* have a UK address on the registration certificate (V5C)
* have a current MOT test certificate before date of order for the new vehicle (or that has expired no more than 14 days before the time of order)
* have a current tax disc when the order for the new vehicle is placed (or that has 14 days before the time of order)
* be insured when the order for the new vehicle is placed

The new vehicle

The new vehicle you want to buy must be:

* a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kg
* first registered in the UK on or after mid May 2009
* declared new at first registration in the UK with no former keepers

and thats what I thought although i have read that the garage is under no obligation to scrap the car :?:?

It all took about a week. I ended up buying from a different garage and I did manage to drive my old car there. It was a bit of a mess: smashed window and damage to one of the doors but they did not care at all.
#14
I would imagine that the garage doesnt even need to see the car if its a scrapper. Just the paperwork you have. check beforehand as it may save you the hassle off taking the car to the garage.

The car needs to have a valid insurance, Tax and MOT + the reg doc.

How it runs and anything else is irrelevant.

Once you have agreed and signed over, even if you have an accident and write the car off, it wouldnt matter. (Though you would need to present the car to the dealer somehow, unless they agree otherwise!)

They need copies of those certificate and docs also.

yes so do you think because it doesn't say it has to be running it should be ok? did your friend take that as granted or mention it to the garage?

well I dont really want to but its just stupid to spend more money on this one when I can put it towards something new, have been good because have resisted getting a new one for the past 3 years, think I can finally justify it but it will mean tightening the belt a bit more :)

He told the garage - they just said to get it there by whatever means necessary! They don't care at the end of the day as it's a nice little earner for them so I wouldn't worry at all. Just follow the guidelines listed and you will be fine :)

Ironic to think I sold an 07 plate car last year and bought a 10 year old one with the proceeds :whistling:

No thinking about it. I did this for my missus car on 23 Oct... though I wont be picking the new one up until Early Feb. (Bloody long waiting list - just wished i did it last June when I first thought about it. Would have been £750 cheaper too!)

The scheme / money runs out soon too! Just hope the fact the deal has been agreed, it means its in tablets of stone. The missus wont be best pleased otherwise!

took about 3 months from when i placed my order, to when the new car was delivered for me.
they don't need to see the car first, as long as you give them all the required documents, i bought my new car off an internet dealer(who makes deals with car dealers), my car was sent from a bradford dealership all the way down to kent, and they drove my old car away.

well you can arrange your own way to get your car to them ;-)
easier for me this way as my car was still in ok condition.

i placed my order back around last june i think, every dealer i spoke to back then had at least a 2 month wait pretty much.

(i got the toyota aygo blue)

quite possibly, it was brand new(built and shipped in after order placed)
i don't know what the situation is now tho.
Originally i was going for a Hyundai i10 top model, but the guy at the dealership was like "i have only 1 basic model left and won't be getting anymore for ages so take it or leave it" so i left it.
