I'm a bit confused! My son is 2 and a half years old and is roughly the same build as our nearly six year old son, at the moment he is squeezing into a britax first class si car seat. I've searched the web for advice about car seats but cant work out if my son will be safe in a high back booster chair?? it says weight suitable from 15kg which is roughly 2.3 stone and my son is roughly 2.6/7 stone but the age on the highback boosters says approx 4 years?! any advice please?

i would say it goes off the size and weight rather than the age of a child, but if you want some proper advice why not email one of the car seat companies or nip into halfords, they are supposed to be good and impartial about car seats... sorry cant be more help :)

This seat says 3-12, now I know he's not quite 3 but if he's not fitting into his original chair then surely thats more dangerous than having him sit in one like these.

Maybe nip into Halfords or something, they might be able to advise you better.

ah that one looks good! he does fit in his one now but it so awkward trying to get him in it because of his size. all the others I've seen have said 15kgs/ approx 4 years, i'll pop in to halfords and see what they have, if not I'll see if argos have any in stock. many thanks x

I have exactly same issue with my little boy, who is 2, but nearly 18kg, the law goes on weight at this stage which is mad, as could legally just use booster seat with an adult seat belt, but i've decided to get something like this:
http://www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Advance-SP-car-seat/dp/B0011769P6/sr=1-2/qid=1251552143/ref=sr_1_2/278-5817129-1938367?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=44453031&mcb=core

lots of these around in different makes, they are group 1-3 which means although big enough for my little boy they still have the harness for protection

ive had my son in this one from two and a half says from 9m but i think thats a bit young for it but turns into a booster seat later so you never need buy another seat!

i've been to both toys r us and mothercare today and asked about this, and they both said that can wear a harness seat like the one i mention above till 18kg, but after this point should remove the harness and use adult seat belt. Both shops said this even though knew would be losing a sale, so looks like at 18kg its just the high back booster seats, and can use these from 15kg.
hope this has helped

yep I have the same problem, you need to get one of these that people are recommending, the ones which turn into a booster seat when child is older, but also have the 5 point harness for when the child is younger. I bought one that is from 4 years to 11 years (without the 5 point harness) as my child was big enough to use 1, I soon realised why they are from 4 years, my child was able to unfasten the car seatbelt, whereas with the harness they cant undo themselves, and at only 2 years old they are a bit too young to know, hope this helps
