Hi folks,

Ok my lass is about to sell her car and get a more powerful one and a bit older than the one she has!, question is:

Its a 57 plate Urban 107 Pug car and if she walks into a garage and they offer her say....£5000 for it as a trade in, if she gets a car from them at £4000
will they give her a cheque for the remaining £1000?

cheers folkys

If she can persuade them to take her car in then she'd get the difference in either cash or cheque.

But, unless the dealer thinks he can sell her car quickly at a good profit, he's likely to offer a ridiculously poor price. She's likely to be much better off selling it privately and looking around for a good deal on the replacement.

what happens if she gets a price first then proposes a swap??

try it and see! Each dealer will behave differently, plus will often offer you more if you want to 'trade in' with another car..how this would work if the other car is cheaper I don't know, it would depend on the dealer's policy.

hmmmmm i wonder if there is anyone on here that works at a dealership??

There probably is, but every dealership will be different depending on what cars they trade in and whether they want your missus's. Plus the situation youre describing by its nature is a little more complicated than a straightforward trade or sale.

Yea all dealers will be different, Because you want a older car im guessing your gonna be going to a small dealer and due to this current financial climate i doubt they will take your car and give you money and a older car.

The best and only option for you is not to ask anyone on here but to go and see for yourself what they will offer you if they will offer anything.

Me. I do. The car she is selling is highly desirable in the current climate (£35/yr Road Tax, Ins. Grp 1, etc...) PM me the reg no and I'll suggest a price she wants to get for it and then if that is more than the car she wants to buy then the difference should be a cheque back to you.

Hope that helped.

I'd imagine there are thousands of nearly new cars going through auction sites across the UK at the moment.

The dealers will offer the equivalent price that they could pick one up for at the sales, or try to get it cheaper if possible.

Set a price you want and stick with it. They could try to unload something onto you that they are unable to sell too, beware. Best sell your' car then look for another. Try Parkers for a ballpark figure..

Yeh we now have an idea what to get for the car, £4500 sold or £5500 as a trade in :)

Had a car that we seen for £4888 and Arnold "shark" Clark would'nt do the deal..just for a straight swap
