No, they are no longer able to insist you have it done with them, as long as its done at a proper garage

thanks mate:thumbsup:

i thought that was now the case

am i right in thinking i can get my old garage to do the service and if they find any problems gotto main dealer to get them to sort it under warranty?

The garage has to be VAT reg and the parts you use HAVE to be OEM parts, not 3rd party.

Make sure that the 'old' garage are doing the full manufacturer's service (£100 is quite cheap), otherwise you could be in for trouble if you have a warranty issue later. Ask yourself about their facilities (modern cars are plugged into expensive diagnostic computers than can 'see' faults developing early). And remember that the franchise garage will have any notes on issues from the manufacturer and your 'old' garage might not.

Also consider that if you sell the car, the absence of a full manufacturers service history could affect the value (you may trust the old garage, the buyer may not).

You can go back and haggle with the main dealer, by the way. They may reduce their price.

Service pricing for cars under warranty is a bit of a rip off, but garages also know that when most owners really think about it, the savings from going to a non-franchise garage often don't seem worth it.
