as far as i remember u can buy online and not display for something like 5 days after renewal

You can renew your tax any day from the fifth day of the month.

If you prefer to tax in the last few days of the month, there is now an exemption from the offence of not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month and allows time for the new disc to arrive in the post.

The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires.

P.O matey... not worth the hassle of proving you brought it online if the cops stop you!

Mine ran out today- i bought it on-line, as long as you have proof the car is taxed you will be OK. I printed out the confirmation e-mail with the dates on it and keep it in the car.

The police can check via radio or on their car computer to see if you are taxed or not.

I did mine online last week, but nothing turned up !! No doubt some postie now has a free one !
I called them today and their sending out a new one, but they said I was fine for up to 5 days now.

I believed this to be true too, I've done it this way before.

You shouldn't have to prove it, the police will be able to check for themselves.

That's good to know for future reference.

There was a change in the law recently to allow a grace period between tax disks.

Not really, it should all be on the database.

could always scan your old one and edit the numbers using photoshop.

for the record if you do it on line you will get conformation that you have paid, keep it with you so if the old bill stop you, you have proof plus once you have paid on line you have 5 days grace as the postal service can be slow

I think the database gets updated immediately if you buy it online so with luck they wouldn't pull you over in the 1st place.

does anyone know any thing about speed cameras. I was possibly caught the other day by a policeman holding something but it wasnt a speed gun held at arms length it looked like something held up to his eye. I didnt get pulled over but i was speeding. Wasnt sure if maybe he was videoing and i'll get something through the post in a couple of weeks :x
