Car with irish plates why do the boys in blue like it?!

Other than sticking a welsh flag across the rear window I'm stumped.
(no I'm not welsh either lol)

The car is on irish number plates (not northern ireland ) and it seems that when ever hubby or I use this car it gets unwanted attention from the boys in blue.

I've been pulled for dim headlight, not indicating (when turning within a private works car park),tax disc view obstructed along with other niggly things.
It'[s the same when hubby uses the car,I think its the irish plates that get it pulled over as I have yet to be pulled over in either of my other cars.
One of the policemen was astonished when he stopped me and asked me my name,as soon as I spoke he said "oh youre not irish then" I've also been called a f'in irish beep beep a few times by angry motorists lol

Just wondered if anyone else has or has had irish plated cars and found the same?
A friend said maybe it because a lot of the irish travellers pass through the uk

Just get a set of french plates. You won't even have to worry about road tax then ;-)

Edit: Now maybe my mind is working overtime but......

Surely you cannot legally use a car from Southern Ireland here, unless you are a resident of that country, or am I missing something?

I reckon they probably reckon the car belongs to Irish xxxx. I know its not nice but alot of travellers are irish and the police are obviously looking out for these things. You do know you can report it as harrassment by them. It can sometimes stop them so often. Good luck.

LOL, I don't agree with the ***** comment so wouldn't know. She was only pulled over once and thats because I was in the back seat holding my toddler and he wasn't in his car seat. She drives a big audi thing, maybe it doesnt have the scary car look or something.

hhhmmmm maybe it would be worth changing its plates to a uk set and seeing if it gets pulled regularly then,I honestly cant see I look like a traveller:oops:

Are you in England? If so it may just go back to the days when the IRA had a campaign against England and mud sticks so to speak.
#14
yup am in the uk :)
#15
is it a normal car u would see in england, or is it like a opal rather then a vauxhall as next door is a polish lad, he drives the exact same model bmw as mine no difference @ all but he has polish plates and has been stopped loads and loads even done the old fingerprint test on there gadget that tests that he is legal here etc, saying that it could just be little things there picking on and its nothing to do with the plates my old man have been driving for 25+ years and only been pulled over twice and that was twice last week for stupid things, one being driving with his fogs on (when the street lighting had gone out and it was raining heavy) and the second being for the rear plate not having the name of who made his plate on (even do it did there was just some dirt on it lol)

I seem to remember hearing that if a foreign car's numberplate gets snapped by a fixed speed camera it is a pain in the bum for the police to get the details and fine them so a lot of them get off scott free. Maybe the police find this irritating and sort of even out the score?
#17
get a cheap private reg with anything on!
#18
yea hdixon85 yea ive also read that somewhere, but then i am also 99% sure you can only drive a non uk car here for x amount of time before they must be registered here, and i swear the OP said her car was registered in england/uk with DVLA

I'm a traveller and never get pulled :p

The only thing i pull is a caravan :p
#20
Much of my family live in Ireland and over the last 25 years they have visited in their Irish Reg cars and NEVER has one been pulled over by the police for any reason. I really think the police would have better things to do than hound someone because of Irish plates - even those who might be xenophobic towards the Irish. Perhaps I'm naive and my family has just been lucky.

How is that racist?? Im not saying all irish people are travellers. but there are some of them and as for the word ****** that is a slang word for travellers not racism. National newspapers use that word.

And also, they arent doing their job by pulling over innocent people. They waste their time on silly things like that instead of muders etc in this country actually. and also yes you can report them for harrassment if it keeps happening. I was pulled over 4 times in one week a few years ago just because i was young driving a brand new car and i reported it and got a letter of apology and from then on i have been pulled over max of twice in 3 years.

the thing is holly, erm how can i break it to u, o yes!! murderers dont walk around the streets with big signs saying "i just killed someone" so when a police officer pulls someone over they dont know if they are an innocent person of if they are a serial killer. A member wisely posted b4 about the outcome if the police presence was reduced, instead of moaning, you should feel safer that there is an active police presence and therefore crime will be reduced.

Hold on... so you are now saying they pull cars over in case they are murderers???
That is ridiculous. No a lot of police pull over young people for NO reason. Dont tell me they dont because i know they do. All i was saying was if they spent more time trying to solve murders etc and less time stopping innocent people alot of the problems wouldnt occur!!

i was merely giving u an example of completely different ends of the spectrum ie

innocent person-------------------------------------------------------------serial killar

i wasnt sayin police pull cars over in the hope that one of them is a serial killer.

finally police do have to follow protocols and give ppl reasons for why they pull someone over/stop and search etc, any police officer who fails to give a reason for a stop or search or pulling a car over is breaking the law themselves and could be accused and charged with harrassment in extreme cases (it has happened before) i do not however wish to discuss this with you anymore, other members have voiced their distaste with your comments so maybe you should look at what you have said and try to understand how it offends some people, if you wish to carry on this discussion, feel free to pm me.

Off topic a bit, but I had a policeman in a car behind me and for over 10 minutes was talking on his mobile phone - not handsfree. I know I could have taken a photo or whatever and got him into trouble as he was doing wrong, and he probably would have stopped me doing it, but I have a lot of respect for the police, they do jobs I could not even think of doing and would not like to do. They have a job to do, and although this country isn't perfect, the individual policemen do good jobs and I wouldn't mind being stopped, knowing that I have nothing to hide, but knowing that if one in every however many people they stop in their cars have something to hide, they are one closer to getting that person.

And i am sure you would say that if you got pulled over 4 times in the space of 7 days or even worse 3 times in one night (like a friend, who hadnt done anything but had a barry boy car and was young)
i am sure then you would be extremely annoyed and not be think at least they are doing their job!!

The one who was shot at the old Sharp building on Monday 9th June 2008.

A police officer who died when he was shot in the chest during a training exercise was hit by a shotgun round fired by a colleague, police said.

Pc Ian James Terry, 32, from Burnley, Lancashire, died in hospital after the incident in Thorp Road, Newton Heath, Manchester on Monday morning.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is conducting an inquiry into the incident.

It said Pc Terry was struck by a single shot discharged from a shotgun.

He was killed while officers used "special munitions" designed to stop vehicles containing armed criminals.

The exercise was taking place in a warehouse in the city, an IPCC spokesperson added.
