Hello all, Has anyone ever been on a caravan holiday (in a park resorts or haven type place) in wales? I want to book up for the summer but not sure what area to pick...I have read reviews and looked on all the caravan webs but cant decide.
cheers x

stayed at greenacres porthmadog and hafan y mor pwhelli, one park, one haven, depends what you want from your holiday as to which you would choose, hafan y mor much bigger, good places around to visit from both as only about 30 mins apart if that, caernarfon is lovely with the castle, greenwood forest park is well worth a visit for kids aged 3 to 12ish, spent full days there on several occasions. There is also snowdonia, portmerion, black rock sands is a beach you can drive on to, miles of sand assuming the sun shines.

i have been to hafan y mawr or something like that, was ok for a havn site, but prefer butlins . This used to be a Butlins site, hence they seem to have more than other Haven sites.

aww thanks for your time. :thumbsup:My dd's are 3 and 5 so was just basically wanting a base to stay where we can visit places and come back and go to the night entertainment..I have read some bad reviews about the state of the parks and the state of the caravans. but I suppose everyone had an opinion!

i used to go as a kid when it was a butlins, alot of the free things ahve gone now though. :( Pool is great, we only went for the weekend and it was scorching hot at the time april i think it was. Beach was nice too, nice parks for the kids, for adults though entertainment was a bit poo! They had a kids entertainer on one night and it looked like they ahd paid someone £50 out of the paper to come ...lol... Nice area around though, lovely beach too. If the weather had of been bad, it would of been BAD!lol

Also been to haven Presthaven Sands. that was aweful!

We stayed in this chalet last year... it was so close to the beach, we could sit on the patio area and watch the kids on the beach! :-D

There are a load of rocks off to the right, and the rock pooling was brilliant, my 3 (now 4) year old wants to go back this year... and the 13 year old had to admit it was fun too!!! :w00t:

I went Presthaven Sands near Preystatyn
Was ok - Not muy personal kind of holiday. They seem expensive for what they are.

funny that I was just looking at the same site ..lol how weird!! do u have to buy seperate entertainment passes if u stay here?
#14
This is a bit more up market but in a lovely part of pembrokeshire.

http://www.bluestonewales.com - like centre parcs\

Haven have Quay West in Newquay near Aberystwyth Newquays a lovely place.
Haven also has Kiln Park Tenby - its a big site so you get all sorts there - but the beaches in the area are fantastic & Tenby is a great place.

Nope, they were all included!

Though I must admit, the kids never visited the pool even.

My 3 year old ate his breakfast on the back step every morning... then was off to the beach! :w00t:

£585 in the middle of August... not bad when you consider it sleeps up to 7! ( we took the inlaws!)
The OH loaded the electric... but I'm pretty sure it didn't cost £10 for the week... I would have to check to be sure though!

:giggle:

I'm sure!

Lol... it just occurred to me that I may have just talked you into booking a holiday... and knowing my luck, it will be on the week when my OH is off work!!! :w00t:

Honestly though, we had a ball!

The first night we arrived the OH and his dad wandered off to see if they could bum a fishing trip off one of the fishermen that had just arrived back... they came back with a 'no'... and a bag full of fresh mackerel... so we cranked up the BBQ... and the guy who brought our linen gave us a HUGE sea bass!!! :santa:

We had the BBQ going for every meal! :-D

would make a good base, accomodation can be dodgy if you go for the cheapest, they have changed the names now but when it was 3star 4star bronze silver and gold, silver was my minimum, been to hafan y mor at least 5 times only had to complain once, they upgraded us straight away and gave us vouchers for the bar. They have a large indoor softplay area which is great for the little ones, been a few years since i was last there though, mine too old now.

There is quite a lot to do in the area, though, to get anywhere you will need a car! To be honest, we didn't do too much wandering... the beach was too good, as was the weather! On our last day, we had a meal in a pub and the landlord started telling me all about the stuff to do in the area... and we didn't even know half of it was there. So my top tip... ask the locals!

It was a standard sized bath... and the bed I slept in was very comfy (it was one of those bunks with a double on the bottom and a single on top ( handy if you have an argument! :w00t:) The room his mum and dad were in just had a standard double, and the kids room had bunks

Oh, and yes, it was very clean! ;-)

Hope I am helping here, and don't worry 'bout the questions... I don't mind! :)

To be honest, we didn't really go for the nightlife...

For us, the location was just perfect for the kids! :)

I wanted to visit Oakwood theme park, but we just never got around to it... :?

We did leave the beach long enough to visit here though!

Oh... I missed you! :?

Lol, I have been to oakwood YEARS ago... and it was cool, that is why I wanted to go back! ;-)

The chocolate farm was good, but don't make it a ' thing to do on a rainy day' ... 'cos that is what EVERYONE does, so it ends up being soooo busy! (ie; what we did...);-)

Awwww... I can't wait until summer! :-D
