I used to collect old games consoles and knew what was valuable and not... Picked up various snes consoles for £5 and under, a region free mega drive for £1 nes for £5 and under, speccies at various prices depending on condition. My best was probably streets of rage 3 for the megadrive for £1 ... Promptly sold on eBay for £50

oh btw to the person above who has a faulty tape loader... You can use a normal 2.5" to 2.5" audio cable to go from speccy to other tape device. It will read the audio frequency from there. I think I managed to get the speccy to read from cd once!

On the console theme a modded xbox for £5 with 160 gig HD inside.

A new "empty" hard drive enclosure that turned out to have a 320gig drive in that was brand new and unformatted for £6.

Other bargains a denon pro cd seperarates player for £5 that sold for £75 on the bay.

A silver watch for £1 valued at £120 by a jeweller.

Various bits of pottery that was locally produced and is just becoming collectable, pay around £1 an item over the last few years and now each piece is worth £15+ (these are all stored away safely in the loft whilst value steadily grows).

A bissell vacuum cleaner that they sell for £169 on their site for £3 with a snapped belt and cracked baseplate, then sent an email to Bissell saying I was disappointed as the baseplate had cracked on mine (not a lie, it was true) and they sent me one free with a pack of belts and filters as a gesture of goodwill.

Unless I really need or want something I always ask myself if it will resell at a mark up, its always stood me in good ground.

I bought an enormous painting of sunflowers for 50p (it was HUGE) and put it straight on the for sale site at work, where I sold it for £25 the next day. I was dead chuffed!

Yes, he bought a Van Gogh from a car boot sale.

In a similar vein, I bought a Damien Hirst shark from a carboot sale. It was a right bug*** to get home

Nice. I once gave away a sideboard thing to a charity shop, only to remember the next day I had taped a tenner under one of the drawers as emergency money!!!

PS1 for a quid. Not an amazing deal but still much cheaper than you'd get them from a second hand shop, ebay, etc

Got a George Foreman grill with £30-50 (never really looked into how much it was worth properly) for £3 too

Looking forward to hunting some more this spring/summer!

OP, make sure the car boot you buy matches the colour of your car

I used to be a fiend for a car boot. Some of my favourite finds were:

A boxed Sega MultiMega console, extremely rare and I'd never heard of one til I saw it, when I just knew it was worth something. Bought for £10, sold for around £200 on eBay. (If you haven't heard of one of these research it, a MegaDrive and MegaCD, which was supposed to double up as a personal stereo too, as it could be powered by AA batteries, I can see why that one never got off the ground)

A "faulty" PS2 console for £10. I took it home, whipped the case off and took a Q-tip to the laser, and it worked like new for over 2 years, before I sold it on.

My brother asked a guy how much he wanted for two pretty old looking fly fishing reels. The guy said just have them! Turned out one of them was quite sought after and I got £25 for it on eBay the week after.

Over the 2 or 3 years I bought and sold consoles from car boots I had various boxed, mint consoles and games, with some pretty rare ones.

Will check back and post any big finds if I remember any more.

Once came away with a rare Smiths album (vinyl) but otherwise seem to miss out on the great finds. Can be a good place to find discontinued crockery if you've got an expensive but now incomplete set. Denby's Greenwich and Metz ranges are my currently sought items but the P&P usually wipes out any bargains on eBay.
