Where can people over 25 turn for careers advice? I'm 25 with a degree in Computer Science and 6 months experience but cannot find a way back into work. Are there any orginisations which can help?

They are absolutely no good as all they want you to do is take any job rather than help you decide what to do with your career.

Thanks for the link treble99

depends where you live - local government and council funding varies from place to place

What abouts the careers office at your old university.

Go to your University. I'm 25 & have my degree, struggled for a bit to get a career job sorted (worked as a supermarket supervisor in the meantime).

One day I got a phone call from the Uni careers department asking how I was getting on & to call in if I wanted some help/advice - I had not once contacted the careers service whilst at Uni!

So contact your Uni careers dept.

Thought of teaching?

Thats all that anybody ever suggests. Theres gona be a huge surplus of teachers in a few years time when people have completed those PGC courses

Better to have a surplus than a shortage, from an education point of view. All the money they throw at you to do it, you'd be crazy to not consider it for the short term as a PG.

i think its terrible to be honest - the amount of people i know who went into teaching because there was nothing else have no heart for teaching and are just there to get money for a friday and saturday night

i certainly would like to think the teachers who will teach my future children are in the job for the right reasons

Maybe look for some sort of VSO type placement. Would allow time out till oportunities improve and give you something to pad out the CV

Always used to be lots of placements if people were prepared to take short term contracts as a first step. Theres no guarantee of security but depends if you are willing to take a risk that could lead to something more
