I like the way the lady putting the cat in the bin got quite a vicious bashing (media and online), but this goes almost unnoticed!?

bloody hell thats crazy, why the hell would anyone do that?

Hope she is put on the pova and poca lists, as it is abuse of a vunerable adult

Look at the way she was shovelling it in - even putting soup plate right up to her greedy mouth.

Really shocking and also really sad

Desperate, that's all that comes to mind.

Having been with my Mum as a kid when she worked at a nursing home I can honestly say she is mad eating that ****. I will never forget the smell of dirty old people's nappies. I sincerely hope I drop before 80, maybe 81.

why does she put it in a tissue?
i find it bizarre..the food is slop anyway...but looks like she was too lazy to feed the old lady.

Unfortunately carers eating the patients food is probably one of the least disgusting things that go on in caring homes. If you were a fly on the wall, no relative of yours would ever go near one.

I think she wanted it to look like there was an attempt at feeding, hence dirty food stained tissues. Which makes it even more evil!

Apparently the family planted the camera. I would have placed a small explosive device in the porridge. Now that would be entertainment.

You are absolutely right though OP, the cat in the bin was a one off, that didn't really cause the cat much harm, this was beamed to millions around the world and seen as the most vile crime of the century. Here we have a human being been submitted to terrible mental abuse and possible physical abuse, yet what will happen apart from people probably making jokes connected with the patients illness, nothing at all and it will just be passed on by like it's the norm.

I saw this video earlier and felt so angry. When I read that the old lady died only a few weeks later I wanted to cry.
My Mum had Alzheimers and we put her in a local care home for respite care. I was really disgusted at the level of care available,I ended up being known as a right troublemaker, I'm very proud of that ;)

The trouble is that some "carers" get away with lying through their teeth as nobody listens to elderly people, especially not when they have dementia. I am a trained nurse and I struggled to deal with their attitude, God help anyone else! The woman in the news is probably going to go to jail, which is what she deserves.

The problem with the care industry as a whole is that care workers are poorly paid which attracts people who aren't up to the job. This means that you end up with people such as this woman who are too lazy, evil, or stupid to care for their patients.
This family were caring for their mother at home with a part time carer who would be getting paid more than one working a residential home.
I really believe care workers should be paid more as they do a job which we as family to the patient either won't or can't do.

My gran(who died 17 years ago this year) used to almost starve herself and just live of the very very cheapest basics but then spend a huge amount of money on her cat and dog to the point she would buy them meat from butchers and cook it for them! They were nasty little things too as a result of being spoiled saw everyone as a threat and the cat kept clawing at people and the dog barked and tried to intimidate people.

Its as if she wanted to hide the food? But why?

She was obviously sick of looking after an Alzheimer's patient. Trying to starve her to death. My mum used to do it privately and take me and my brother along. The wife of the patient was really nice to us, my mum loved the job. But you really need to be a strong minded person and have so much love in your heart to do care work. There was some really evil women at the nursing home. Me and my brother had to sleep in one over christmas once. That was scary with the dead stag heads looking down on us.

I currently work for the NHS and I can't understand this at all. Why anyone would do this and the spooning the food in the tissue. If the carer couldn't be bothered feeding the patient you think she would actually at least give her a few spoons. If the carers manager insisted she stayed with the patient until all food consumed, then again you would assume that she would try and feed the patient some of it rather than eat it herself. Or if she couldn't afford to feed herself then again you would expect that she would feed the patient some of it at least. But to not even try and give the patient any food makes no sense what so ever.

Saw this yesterday, pretty sickening. The patient died about 12 weeks later I believe. Pretty diabolical really, but I wouldn't ever do the job - you'd need to be made of very strong stuff and have a heart of gold. Not be a scumbag who neglects the patient. Bah.

The problem is there are a lot of people in the proffesion that shouldn't be. Its a low paid job especially in care homes and a lot of immigrants will do the work, which I don't have a problem with at all, however communication is then impared. In the past few years (in the NHS) I have seen the standards fall and I think recession does have something to do with it. Carers are always needed so those that have been made redundant from there jobs will apply to work as a carer, even though most people actually can not do this type of work. There are people where I work whom I refuse to work with as they don't have respect for patients and don't give proper care. The NHS and care homes are failing but unfortunately the good carers get tarred with the same brush.

Agreed Shelly. It makes me wonder where all the money goes in care homes if the staff are so poorly paid to look after the elderly person...

I agree with everything you are saying here Shelleywelley.
I also think we have a problem with poor care for the elderly because as a society we seem to have very little respect for them. The NHS discriminates against elderly patients when they need treatment. This is a fact!
The job of caring for frail old people is difficult, poorly paid and low prestige. That being the case, it's not going to be easy to attract enough good people to do the job. So we end up filling the gap with evil, ignorant people like the woman in this case. :(

i work in a care home, and personally I am on a **** wage.
I work for £3.64 an hour, everyone else I wrk with is on £6.20, I have the same qualifications and more than a few members of staff, age discrimination? I have been working there for 18 months and I absolutely love it! It makes me so angry that the residents are paying up to £600 a month yet they still cannot find the right employees. 36 residents x £600 a week = 21 600. this is a week. the residents have 1000 a month to spend on their food. 1000 on toiletries and care for the house. where does the other 19 600 come from!?

its ridiculous. I cannot wait to find a home that really cares.
