In all honesty....get a 'man' in to do it.You shouldn't have any problem with getting someone to measure up for free.

Apart from that,i'm not much help, sorry

I am crap at DIY but if you still have your old carpet down and are definitely getting a new one, why not pull the old one up and measure that?

Bingo there is your answer. If you do not have an old one in place that is a nice fit then discard this mumbo jumbo that I am talking about.

Get Carpet Right or Allied Carpet round to measure up. I did this in our old house a couple of years ago.

Went in to look at carpet at Carpet Right, so had a rough idea of what I wanted, phoned them up and booked a appointment, lady came round did all the measurements which I wrote down and then I haggled on price and delivery. Saved a small fortune

Are you going to fit it yourself?

You could, maybe,go to one of the well known stores and and get a free estimate then not go ahead with the order,so to speak. That is what i was getting at...'tis late/early so probably not explained myself well;-)

Imo small independent retailers are usually the best for prices if you are wanting it to be supplied and fitted,Allied etc charge silly money for gripper rods and stuff!!

Where are you?

Remember each step is laid seperately, so measure up the step and then across. But ALWAYS leave some extra.

You also have to have underlay on stairs.

when i asked a carpet right once i was told a system the use for measuring stairs, give them a call, if you tell them your going to buy from them they should explain how to do it :)

When we ordered the carpet for the hall, stairs and landing we just had to measure the width and length of hall and landing (at widest point, didnt have to measure where the width changed) and tell them the amount of stairs we had (and whether it was straight up or turned)

They were able to tell us how much we needed from that
