Carribean Carnivals - what music is it?

I went to the carribean carnival in Leicester today. What is the music they play from the floats that the costume dancers dance to following? It's a fast tempo with sort of a calypso/drum/bass/fast rap mix. Is this Soca? Some of them had dj's doing some mixes too but it was all the same style. Can anyone give any examples of artistes to look out for?

Before anyone says, no it's not standard reggaae or steel drums!

I was wearing a hi vis vest and a very weary expression, lol

Got there at 6 am and the park was basically empty, was quite cool to see it all finally come together.
