I'm trying to stop my 9 month old kitten from using the litter tray. We have a cat flap so she can go out when she wants and have recently moved the litter tray outside. Yesterday we removed her litter tray hoping that she would just start doing her business outside. It seemed to work during the day but this morning when i got up she had used the kitchen floor as a toilet.
Can anyone offer any tips to try to get her to stop using her litter tray

you've given her too much freedom, feed her and put her out, then lock the catflap for a good hour

you need to disinfect the area really well where the litter tray was, within a week she'll realise its natural to go to the toilet outside

Keep the cat litter tray!!

I had to have my back garden paved because of cat mess in it on a daily basis!

i started putting my cats litter tray outside and he used to go out to use and after he got used to going outside, i threw the litter tray away. gud luck!

once the litter tray was outside the door we started moving it down the garden gradually until we got it to somewhere we wanted the cat to use. Then after a while removed it. The cat had learnt to use that place and we didnt have any problems inside.

give her time, shes only 9 months old! They prefer going outside once they get used to it.

everyone is right, i have had cats all my life, they will get used to going out just give them time, you spent its early weeks teaching it to use the litter tray, its just being a good girl.
